Hey, does anyone know what's up with Burning Brass? I just stopped by their to pick up a brass reamer, as I just busted my favorite graphite one, and it looks like they only do marver pads now.

Does anyone know whats up? Did they just get sick of making tools? Does anyone know of any place that makes as quality of brass stuff for near the same price?

save a small fortune and build a sweet one yourself! Really easy build if you can weld and do proper fitup. You can find the motor for $100 or less on ebay. Imma build one myself as soon as I gots some fundage. Its pathetic that I cant afford to build this right this minute as cheap as it would cost. Really, this build would be under $200, take a morning to build. The diamond wheel costs more than it would to make the machine. I can't wait. Finally found a use for them old tires laying in the yard that came off a truck I don't have anymore, heh. Shit, man, sometimes you strike gold whilst surfing the interwebs.

After doing some math and discovering that Simax ISN'T ridiculously expensive after all, I am rethinking my next clear purchase. I know this has been a topic before, but the dog ain't quite dead yet. Any reason its the bomb? Any reason you hate it? I know for sure I'll never buy Pyrex again. Schott's pretty awesome, but silver is easily over-struck with it. Been a few years since I had Kimble or Simax tube.

Also, if anyone has tried this new Kimble Artistic, I'd love to hear a review.

Some of the things Im looking for in clear is a clear that treats colors well and is good for honeycombs. Been in honeycomb mode lately, and Schott is great, but not quite getting the results I want. It seems the silver strikes TOO easily, like if I do a honeycomb on a marble, it over strikes too easily and Im left with creamyness instead of blue, purple hues. Kinda opposite of Pyrex, where it takes forever and a day for it to strike.

hey everyone i was wondering what kind of differnt things people make and what are there best sellers. i know its differnt for differnt parts of the country i thought it would be interesting to just kinda of see what sells where and what is your bread and butter.is it prodo, headie, fume work, iso, goblets , pipes pendants, dillys. anything that you make outta glass im interested in hearing about. ive been at the torch for almost a year and just trying to learn everything i can and anything interesting along the way!!

Hi all, this is my first post. I researched this as much as I could before asking but I don't think I can sleep until I figure this out. Ok, I am a newbie and bought a bunch of tubing on craigslist to practice... There are three different sizes, bong stem, slider and a size larger than the slider size. The person I bought it from said he got it when he bought a bunch of tools, came with the lot. So, he couldn't tell me any history.

It was so cheap that I couldn't pass it up.:twitch: It is a boatload of tubing but it is old, dirty and standard size wall. Once we got a piece in the flame, it was full of tiny air bubbles, threw a green flame and kinda looked a tad yellow. It also exploded a couple times after being reintroduced to the flame even though it was not out of the flame for any significant amount of time. What the heck? My friend is a seasoned glass blower and he tested it for compatibility with other glass and it seems fine.

My friend said it could be Chinex and after researching this guess seems right. Its virtually unusable the way it is and has more issues than what most have said about the Asian made "chinex".

My friend has a big and beautiful torch. Are we working it too hot? We tried to work it cooler but either way, air bubble heaven.

I also found in my research that leaded glass was discontinued due to health risks. This stuff is old and could of been in storage for years...

Has anyone else ever come across this? I just want to make beads and pendants at this point but even that seems impossible because of those flippin bubbles.

Last time I had time to pay attention, everybody was sandblasting and some were starting to get sick of it.

Please fill me in, I want to get my mind back into it so that when I get my CPA license and can afford the time and $ to set up again, I'll be ready.

ok dont get me wrong, i feel completely stupid now, but i'm a little confused on what some of these numbers mean



i know that a pound of northstar stuff is, from what ive seen, mid $30's to mostly $50.

what does the $9.00 mean in "-NS-001 northstar colbat $9.00"..... is $9.00 for the 1/4 lb??

and also the price that goes along with the quantity above it...

im just confused on how to go about ordering lets say, a 1/4 lb and what not

Does anyone know who carries the side car glass on glass adapters ( used for dome set) so i dont have to make them.

So... I was in the Champs flame off and never made it home to maine. From what i've been told i am in Humbolt county, california and working mr. gray and Tristan's shop, the old arcata glass school and formerly 101 north prior to operations 'pipe dreams'. They won't let me leave... so we decided i might as well teach a class. i was thinking about focusing on bridging the gap between the scientific and pipe schools of thought on the lathe and and the bench. i want to give people new approaches to what they are doing and open new doors to what they could be making. we are shooting for the 21st and 22nd of sept. we don't have it totally together yet but if want more info PM me and i'll give you my number. i'll post more some.
