I finally got this finished up and listed.
It's shame the $$ has to go towards defending myself and others in court.
Either way....have a peek :)

Nice!
The shape of your pieces made me think of some kinda weird sex toy...
Noticed it doesn't come with a board - have you thought of at least giving the option of purchasing one separately? Or add to order for a little more? Cause I can see it throwing people off - if someone's getting it for a gift, they'd have to figure out where to get a nice board, which is more hassle than the average lazy internet shopper is willing to go thru (being a lazy internet shopper, I know :-)
Another thought... most people are idiots. Using big words like borosillicate and annealing would have no meaning for the average joe. Might want to dumb it down & say it's "scientific grade glass that's been slow cooled in an oven (or kiln- even idiots seem to know what a kiln is) to make a stronger, more stable piece"
Also, just curious, how fast are you busting those things out now-a-days? $100 seems pretty cheap for a hand crafted set... +1 for the inspiration!
Hmm.....The pieces themselves have a small enough footprint that I could probably stencil one onto the box itself.
Average time for the beaded set is about a week, though I'm not full time on the torch. And yes, it's definitely cheaper than I'd want to list it at, but I made it smaller and priced it low to try to help it move better. The more irritating bit is making the cases.
I agree about the text, but there's also a 'white coat effect' that occurs where people assume expertise if you sound like you know what you're talking about rather than admitting they don't have a clue what you're talking about.
Thanks for the input!
edit: added some reasonably priced board options. Thanks!
Menty, Great job on this chess set. I have seen many of your chess sets, and look forward to seeing many more. It looks like you are having fun creating them.
$100. bucks, WOW!! you can't beat that. I hope someone in etsy land will find it, and see it's value right away and purchase it too. Keep up the great work.
Cool, the listing looks much more idiot friendly :D
One last thing - spontaneous breakage might freak people out. Yeah, we know it's not uncommon, but someone just out to buy a set might freak out a little if they think that it might sometime in the future spontaneously break. Joe blow might assume your stuff isn't quality. Warranty is kick ass, but 90 days is long enough for a dumbass to break some stuff. Might want to cut it down to 30 days, and mention it's time for purchaser to insure no damage was caused during shipping. Then deal with any spontaneous breakage issues on a case by case basis - which shouldn't be too often.
Good luck! Hope that beauty sells quick!
Hmm...maybe you're right.
My drawer pulls I actually warranty for a whole year :)
Hey, tried following the link to see how your posting was looking, and it said it was no longer there.... Did that beauty sell, or did you change the address so I'd shut up:puzzled:
Hmm...good question.
edit: all fixed. Somehow I left it inactive after the last edit. All is right in that corner of the world :)
Damn that's cheap for the amount of work. Wish I played chess any more
Nice work there Menty...FB'd and Twitter'd to help publicize it for ya!
looks great. hope that bitch gets whats coming to her
Thanks, Christine!
The following post will not be helpful in raising money or selling a chess set....
Menty... you are clever as hell... I love your work. I've been making tons of wine stoppers lately..because of you... The chess sets are sick... The moss ornaments on your site... the drawer pulls... the sculpting.... sick...sick....SICK
I'm mostly a pipe guy...i like it and its easy money.. you've got some amazing non-pipe products, I hope you are making the money you deserve.
Some day lets get together and I'll attach your work to my pipes... I'm thinking a bubb with a Moss ball attached... a living pipe...
just saying man...props... good stuff...
everyday I'm a bigger and bigger fan of your work...
Matt
Thanks Matt, it's nice to hear it once in a while :)
Sadly the pipes will probably make you more money in the long run, but whatayagonnado?
