Well now we got some of that Mediawiki action.

Find our shiny, still-has-that-new-car-smell GLDGWiki right here!

All of your usernames and passwords should be synchronized between Mediawiki and vBulletin, so if you're having problems, let us know. On a side note, acquiring the plugin to get the software to do that wasn't free, so if you feel like buying some banner time to offset the cost, feel free - any income generated here goes straight back into the community.

Here's a PDF compilation of most of the terms that came up in the Glass Dictionary thread.

At some point soon, we hope to get an image uploader in place so you can attach purdy pictures to your submissions.

Also, copyrighted material (e.g. stuff you grab directly from someones' website) is prohibited. If somebody got really pissy about it, we could get sued, so don't do it.

dood, i just got banned from wikipedia today! Don't tempt me with this free system thing. I tore up the Chreamo section.

Sweet, I was going to set up a WIKI site for glass next week. Guess I don't have to anymore.

buy a banner or donate today the work to build this was huge big ups to misha and prima and any one else who helped.... or will....

this wiki thing is great! I hope to see some submissions, I know there's a lot of you out there with knowledge to share! :D About the copyright thing...stuff you've written here can be copied over there if you want. Just not any other place. ;)

Prima doesn't it already have an image up loader in it? I think in the preferences it does...I didn't test it out but i remember seeing it. I'll look into it, I'm sure it's something we can make happen.

oh yeah and I need to link it from the white skin, too.

Ok you've got links to the wiki on both skins...it's next to the chat link (which should open in a new window now.) You can only see the link to the wiki if you are signed in.

Have fun with the wiki guys, and if you don't mind, could you drop a link to your submissions here for awhile so we can watch it grow? :D I'm really hoping an oxy generator submission will pop up from smutboy and others soon, we keep thinking about getting one every time our oxy bill comes! :lol

You guys might want to change the wiki skin to monobook for now while we work out some of the CSS bugs. Go to your wiki preferences, click on skin, and pick from there.

I'm thinking that in order to motivate you guys to add what you know, we should come up with a little reward system. If you're reading a thread that has useful information in it, consolidate it and add it to the Wiki (along with a link back to the original thread, if possible), and add a post in the thread linking to the Wiki, you'll get some rep points. I'll be watching out for it, and hopefully other members will too.

hey you know all those posts we get 3 million questions about all the same all the time... this is your time to stop it and stop posting "have you tried the search".

this is the community we give you the tools use em..... post about imploads or any thing, got a tutorial laying around a video link make an entry..... Youll get credit for it (i think) on the page.... you can track and add and we will be adding features in future im sure....

and for what its worth ill throw in some points to.

Is that cool, its just a cut and paste from wikipedia. But there is a ton of stuff already on there that could be copied over and start linking the pages togeather.

Is this WIKI going to share its contents with other WIKI sites? Cause if not, it doesn't seem ethnically right to me to copy any content from them.

WIKI's should be not-for-profit .org's IMO, where ideas are freely expressed without any hidden agendas. . Selling advertising on a WIKI leaves a bad taste in my mouth, hopefully the GLDG WIKI will not go this route.

I'm so glad you did this Meerkat, I was trying to figure out how Wiki worked and now I know.

Two little things for you to consider about your tutorial.

In the very first sentance you left out the word it

"vapor by placing in the flame " add it after placing

You might want to explain they are originally putting the metal on a punty. It took me a minute to figure out how you would be holding glass behind the metal after you had just stuck it together. Of course on that one I could just be dense. :)

I do have to say that the thing I love about wiki is also the thing I hate. Which is that it can be edited by anyone. I just spent about an hour creating that fuming page and anyone could go on there and delete the entire thing. Or is there a safeguard against this and its just something I dont know about ?

Personally I am surprised wikipedia has not had this problem, surely there are enough jerks out there on the net that by now several of them would have had the idea of logging into wikipedia.com and deleted all the pages or editing them to say stupid shit.

Thanks for the thanks :) But you can go into that page and edit it yourself if you see typos or things you want to add or change. At the bottom of the page is a link that says "edit this page"

I tried to write the fuming tech as clearly as I could, so the fact that you didnt understand something is telling me I need to do some work, but I am not understanding what you didnt understand. If you can tell me where I lost you, I can edit it to read better.

You put the silver on the graphite bad, you heat up a glass rod and press the heated end of the rod into the piece of silver, thus smooshing the silver into the end of the glass rod, where it will stick, once the glass has cooled down.

I do know what you meant, I have fumed before. Maybe I just read it wrong. It sounded like you said to melt the gold to a rod and then hold the rod behind the gold. It took a second to realize you were talking about a rod and then another glass object. No worries, it is probably me.

there's a roll back, and we can see every change someone makes. in other words, yes it's protected. :)
