Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
i can puff the first 3 to 5 cm to a ball but when i want to puff all out it gets wobbly, ill try the punty thing at the back and ill see how far it will get me
when you do multiple section pieces
do you let the secs stay as a ball with the blowtube attached or do you punty up to the back and just put a punty with a opened up ball in the kiln?
kind regards

i think you have to do the second thing. when i have a reball ready for use, its either on a punty stick with the join hole made and in the kiln, or resting somewhere ready to use, if its thin and small and i am not worried aboutit breaking as it cools.

try using a blowhose to blow out your reballs. i have had sooo much better results since i started using one. easier for me to make consistant even walls.
after you do all the twisting hook the blowhose up and slowly inflate from the tip down to the end of the design. this allows you to leave the piece in the flame as you rotate and inflate .
i dont inflate enitirely at this time, just get is going and make an even , oval shaped piece.
now heat the entire oval while rotating and gently puffing. you should get an even wall ball in no time. now you gotta decide where to put it.
as for leaving on the punty or blowtube. i do both depending on what the next application is going to be. if done right you can bench cool on either with no problems at all.
if you are worried about the bench cool then put in kiln at 1055 for 30 minutes and then bench cool. or if not in any hurry do a full anneal job. overkill though.
Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
thanks, i even have a blowhose setup thing, but i was afraid of using ist cause the spinning is not as easy as without it, maybe i got the wrong components just 2 hoses and a connectorthingy 90 degrees wich cou can spin
@ swampy my problem lies between images 4 and 5, but i think practice will help very very much
i have done it with the punty and the opened up ball, works good, but i think ,as you said, sometimes it might be better to have the blowtube still attached
kind regards thank you very much i apreciate it very much that here is so much help

Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
i made some sections for a tube i will send to a blower with a lathe in germany
i made a splashguard section
an inline section (only the tube without slits)
and a layback stand
i plan on making a donut and attaching the female ground joint to it, i also wanna make some marbles and some discs
i pulled the honeycombed tube my self, it was kinda hard to make it right so i needed 2 trys, the first one got too thin cause i blew into it while pulling

Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
nice frank, i really like the part that looks like a bell. you are always busy it seems.
Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
hi, thanks, ah no man i only can get to the torch on saturday and sundays cause i have a regular 10 hour day job in the week, i wanted to cut slits in the bell thing(splashguard) with my dremel but i phoned with the blower and he says he has a better way to do the slits ,the tubing fpr the inline is also 3-4mm thick so he can blow it out a little if he wants to, i was afraid of making something too thin and fragile
kind regards frank
Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
i have a ten hour day and often put 2-5 hours in on the torch after work. is your torch somewhere else, other than at home? i have my shop in the shed so thats nice.
Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
Nice work so far, colors look cool.
The only tip Id give ya is try to make the holes on the pushbowls a bit smaller. If it gets too big on ya you can always coil up a tiny bit of clear and pop a new hole.
Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
Yes yes looks great but I'd def make them holes smaller.
Re: steaks thread - newbie progression
hi i can make the holes smaller but most people over here use screens and want a bigger hole like the roor turbo bowls, the holes are not as big as the inner diameter of the joint, but some people even want them bigger, i made some slides wit a small hole for smoking without a screen
@ hmk, i have my torch in the garage at my house but i also have a pregnant girlfriend..:D
kind regards frank
