I know people who would like that.
Thanks :)
My process essentially consisted of taking the various shaping techniques and seals I've learned over the past year and putting them together in a way that resulted in the finished product. More of an assemblage of learned techniques than someone teaching me how to make a particular item.
My shopmate has been incredibly helpful when it comes to seals and assembly. Here's one I pulled out of the kiln yesterday (it also has a slow drain):

Re: Fresh out of the kiln
The hardest part looks like the recycling tube. I guess you keep it hot in the kiln? Make them clear because color is too much stress? Or you are a scientific glassblower?

nomad, please understand this thread is not for conversation. this thread is for showing new stuff you've made, not 100 pics of the same designs. when you make something new and exciting, come visit this thread. otherwise you've got your own thread you're welcome to chat in, but this one is not the place!
this of this like show and tell. when you have something new and exciting to show us, come tell us about it. all the other kids in here are playing show and tell and we don't want to be interrupted with conversation. mmkay? thanks.

Re: Fresh out of the kiln
Just cycled my F500 for the first time yesterday (holy hell that thing beats the crap out of all the AIMs I've used). First klein recycler and a flower tube with a little spacey section (the other pieces are my shopmate's). The klein was surprisingly straightforward, but I blew my reservoir bubble a little too thin and I'm not happy with the proportions on the external part of the return. Looking forward to tackling more of them :)

Re: Fresh out of the kiln
I don't see how that's possible about it being way better than an aim. Kilns aren't like torches where a Herbie is way different than a GTT.
regardless, nice work, way to produce!
Re: Fresh out of the kiln
Yesterday's batch. I was pretty happy with the shaping. The fuming on the clear one did not come out as heavy as I thought it would, but all in all a good afternoon.
Did some scalloped tubing glasses today that will be out of the kiln tomorrow.
Right now I'm just gonna hang out by the fire, listen to the tide roll in and enjoy the solitude. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e7bf2b7fe5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f35c5c94b7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...99670b64cf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0296af9f30.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5fab7539ff.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f897cad881.jpg

As far as the kiln, I just meant that the whole user experience was vastly superior. Two main points: the controller (everything from the buttons being much more sensitive/responsive, to the controller actually flashing a ton of useful info at you when you cycle it, such as temp, annealing stage, time elapsed/remaining, and some of the other controller options/settings) and the actual build quality of the kiln, most notably the door. I need to re-tighten the nuts on my 99LSD after every 20-30 openings and the counterweight not particularly well-balanced, giving the door a tendency to swing up and down if you're not super careful. None of those build issues are present with the F500, and the door stands out in particular, given how massive the F500 is in comparison.
As far as the actual annealing of the glass, yes, I'm sure you're correct and they're the same, or similar enough, but for me, as the user, I'm all about the user experience and the F500 blows my 99LSD and the other three AIMs I've used out of the water.

farout, glad you like the new kiln. I have an aim 99LSD too, for 7 years and have never had to tighten any bolts. The hinge sits a bit low for the punty door rest, I will say that. It seems user experience is good enough for me anyway, nothing to compare it to :)

Hey I just heard that the guy who started this thread got shot and killed.
RIP Dan Kooper.
I mean, it might not be true, I can't verify. But the guy who mentioned it seemed sincere.
Re: Fresh out of the kiln
Dood what?! I really hope this is not true.
