Very nice, should be some happy family members this holiday season.
so finally holidays from school, and some free time in my garage, just for the fun i made discs cause i watched a short vid of eusheen on youtube so i thought i should give it a try, i used all new colours i got paparazzi and hbl ,its so cool how layered stuff looks in different light, now im thinking what to make out of it, maybe mouthpieces or connecting them together or something i dont know :D so props to eusheen i was afraid all the time cause of the cold seal o the disc front while making the termination on the other side, one punty took out a chunk at the reversal section, wich sucked , but on the other disc it worked real nice :D

Wow! Beautiful stuff.
Can't wait to see what you come up with using those sections.
hi some of those are going to amsterdam to snob to be incorporated into a tube
some of them are for my personal projects i just need to play around to find my style :D
Well, you're certainly on the right track, wherever your style is headed!
hahaha exactly ^^^^
Works looking great Steak!! Those color combos in the last few sections are great, very organic, but still bright and lively!
thank you very much :)
yesterday build an inline bubbler and fucked it up, i knew i should have bridged the connection, so the weld there was shitty and broke, now
it had some weight and i wonder if i should use somethin bigger than 5mm to bridge,
and i also have an important question to you all, do you put the bridges to special places like where a mib is gonne be welded on later or you just bridge anywhere it feels that it holds well? or should i bridge to the blowtube...? but the weld wich i will work on is lower so should i bridge from one section(can) to the other(disc)?
grüße :D
your curve looks nice bro :)
I bridge to the blow tube. A good trick is to weld an inch of 8 mil on the blowtube. Do this like an inch up from the weld to the piece. Then attach your bridges to this piece of 8 mil. This way your blowtube won't crack from the cold seal scars.
@hmk: thank you
but what if the connection that i have to weld lies lower like 15 cm beneath the blowtube, should i do a bridge that long or should i bridge from the section where the connection is to be made to the other section... it would just be a temporary one wich i would remove later...but than i have to wisely choose the bridging point cause it always leaves a bit of clear so i can attach a marble there...hmmmm
I mean.. As long as it doesn't get in the way there is no harm in a long bridge.
ill just try it out next time i have holidays, on sunday im returning to the scientific workshop
thats the one where it went wrong...

its now my shop piece for safety breaks :D
Oh wow, that's really nice man
nice work, guess i would have braced to the kickstand on the back of the piece. i usually use 6 mm rod for bracing 5 should work fine tho.
safety breaks at your place!! LOL:chilling:
in the second pic you can see the distorted area where it popped off and was repaired, it fell of clean between the disc and the clear tube, but when i welded it back together the disc and the clear tube got a bit out of shape
but its ok :D
hi, i have a question, i was asked to make a full coloured minitube, beaker style, the only thing wich bugs me about it how i make a nice mouthpiece
i thought about making the whole thing on a 12mm blowtube then anneal it and take off the blowtube the other day while holding it in a holder
then i thought about having a blowtube at the bottom and taking that off
how you guys do it?
kind regards
Make the mouthpiece and neck first and use it as your blowtube to make the can.
i worry about spinning it cause itl be around 28 to 32 mm on the neck and its fully coloured so im also afraid of cracking it to pieces, but i can imagine having it half in the kiln to heat it up and then hook it up to a blowhose and the connect it to the can or blowout the can from sections wich i attach, i was thinking about making it on a blowtube attached to the neck and open it up the other day but i think the opening of the neck wont be as nice as i would make it the other way around
gonna try it for sure
You could use tongs wrapped in kevlar. Then just have your blowtube on the bottom and use the tongs to hold it while you flatten the bottom.
that was on my mind also, but i think theres gonna be a reversal or something on the bottom so i need nto puff in it
What an awesome progression thread. How long have you bee going to school for this? What are your plans after?
hi, im am at the school learning scientific stuff for 1,5 years now, ill be finished after another 1,5 year, i worked on my own self taught for a couple months before that, my plans after the education is do scientific work or work in a university maybe, or fuck all that and do my own shit, i dont know, its kinda hard here cause here is not a scene like you have in canada or america , but ist growing slowly and i am positive about this, so im excited where this leads me, my love lies in makin pipes for sure :D
Hi Steak,
I follow your Progression thread since. And I like it!
I think that is has been the absolute right desicion for you to become a glass blower.
You are an addict and have been since the first time, you got in contact with hot glass
As you might remember,my father and grandfather has been scientific glass blowers.
My brother learned at "Schott" company. So I have some knowledge about it and want to give you some council.
To work in the industrial field is shit as it is absolutely underpaid in my opinion.
Another thing here is that you´ll have probably to do mass production.
A much more varied and relaxed job is it to work at a university although the paiment would not be that great.
As you might have seen, there are several offers for scientific glass blowers on the VDG
website to go to Australia,South Africa or Switzerland.
Best,Axel
Hey man, a touch of advice I was given on bridges was this : use nicely accented solid colors to develop your bridges, that way you can make them permanent additions to the piece, that accent others. It also has allowed me to really learn how to really put a lot of sections together very quickly and cleanly. your work looks really good, smart move to learn both sides of the torch at once, I had a job offer to work in a scientific shop a couple of years ago, and I'm wanna kick myself often for not trying it out
hey new pics from me, some school stuff i had to practice or was playing around with
coils, condensers, feet, potassium aparatus, discs.....and this thing like a curve i dont know the name but with a nail,
i just wanted to see if i could make one, they look so stylish
oh nearly forgot the collab piece between myself and hans meijer from snob
of wich i am really, really proud, i made all the colourwork while the customer visited me and watched it,
and then the tube was assembled after a drawing of the customer from hans meijer/SNOB ...

I really love your work Steak - It's good stuff. I can't wait to see more.
@Axel, What is the VDG? How much do you know about glassblowing jobs in Switzerland? Just curious.
hi, VDG means Verband Deutscher Glasbläser thats the website, im also a member ;D

kind regards and thank you very much
NiCEEEEEEEEEEe
Wow man! I've read through a lot of progression threads on here, and I have to say. This is by far one of my favorites. Your glass has come such a long way man, its pretty inspirational. Thanks for sharing it with us!
hi, so much happened that i dd not find time to post anything, the scientific aprenticeship is really running well, i like the stuff that we make very much and
i rebuild my garage workshop at home and 2 weeks ago i could scoop a small old east german lathe , still need to change stuff up like my herbie at the lathe...
i just post some pictures

right on bro, everything looks fucking great, and some looks amazing even :)
you have come a long way, that sci-teaching helps a lot i bet. keep it up!
Dude the goblets and bubble bottom pieces are awesome. I've always been a sucker for a bubble bottom tube. My old girlfriend had a sweet water that had the most perfect round bottom and ever since then they were my favorite style. Keep it up man
