hi , i have a question maybe someone could answer me that
i have been making lots of slides lately and now i saw a pic that confuses me i always made the section then added the ground joint, then i pulled of the blowtube from the section and added a horn or a handle then i pop the hole and push
i saw a fully finised slide still on the blowtube, the in the next pic it was welded onto the ground joint, and the connection was so flawless like machine made, so how is this done grab the bowl with a grabber and weld the ground joint to it?
and how do i get a really clean connection
only through practice?
or am i doing something different
how do you get those super clean welds between the ground joint and the bowl?

probably just rotating each part in the flame, perfect sizing before joining, just the right amount of heat, and a little puff just after connecting. probably give it another few rotations in the flame before puffing, after touching. then a little pull to reduce the puff section to standard diameter.
oh yah, and the practice part for sure too :)
do you make the whole slide with push and hole on the blowtube then grab it with grabbers and tear of the blowtube and attach the ground joint?
i need to practice butt seals i think thats what they are called, i can make some goog ones but not perfect

You add your horn/handle before you push the bowl?? I always do that after I push the bowl....
it is so funny how many different ways there are to do the same thing.
i have been on a face/monster slide kick lately and i have personally found it easiest to do all my attachments before i push the bowl.
i like to still have air pressure when i attach big solid horns as i use the blowtube to slightly blowout the connection between the horn and bowl. i like the look of it pulled out a bit,and it allows me to get the connection quicker with less heat time. that means less chance of messing up other parts with details.
when it comes to connecting the art to the ground joint. i have been leaving an extra 1/4 inch of length over the desired look to allow for condensing of the thin glass the joints come on.
i spot heat with a pinpoint flame and do opposite sides first. once i made it around the circle and know its is melted solid, i then make it a bit fluffier flame and gently heat the entire weld while constantly rotating.
pull out of flame and give a second or so before you puff ever so gently to even wall out.
from there i pop hole/ push bowl and put away in kiln.
as for the how to hold it. i use graphite glass joint tool and for the actual art that i am attaching, i use a hot sealed punty. i dont like working with grabbers for the time it takes to make all the work. just melt off the hot seal before the hole pop and go with it.
i am for sure no expert, but this works well for me.

my #2 above implies that i actually heat and ever so slightly compress the joint and slide together while givin a once again ever so slight puff of air to even things back out.
i do alot of off axis welds so i can relate to that part making it tougher but this is when i especially do just small sections at a time and work my way around the perimeter.
i find that my slide is usually very thick compared to the joint's glass and if i do it this way it makes for a nice heavy and more even walled slide .
seriously it looks like you have it already on the smaller stuff you are showing.
