I took a pair of these (scored for $100)

Then got a pair of ACE shade 5 clip ons off ebay($20). Cut those in half with a GOOD wire cutter. Then made a rough cut for half lenses (at least 1/8 inch big on each side. Then used a roughing file to get down to the exact shape. (the wire cutters leave a 1/8" "wrinkle zone" After the rough filing I used two more finer files to polish up the edges a bit, then hit the lower "3 sides" edges with a little emery cloth to rough up for gluing. Got the lenses where I wanted them, tacked in 3 places, let it cool and set up, then carefully glue in place. Dont glue the top, just will give you a shitty spot to look through. So for $120 I made a killer set of split lenses that if you didn't know you would swear they were made that way looking through them. Since the curvatures aren't EXACTLY matching I dont permanently glue them, but thats fine, they're easy to clean, and I only just reddid the glue job after a year, and that was just to give them a thorough cleaning. I want a pair of goggles and plan to try doing the same thing, pretty sure it'll work good. Im thinking of doing a 3/5 split this time though instead of Diddys.

Ive called Aura and left not 1, not 2, not 3 or 4 but 5 messages requesting info on there glasses and never heard from them. And I specificaly told them I was ready to buy a pair! That was two weeks ago. I called everyday and left messages for 5 days. Nothing! Bought some phillips glasses that I love from ABR. Picked up on the 2nd ring the first and only time I called! Even they have problems with Aura. "A" person on youtube also said something somewhat negative about the Aura Lens company. Weak dude, weak. Called the three departments they had. And guess what!? Were not here at the moment so please leave a message and we will never get back to you as soon as possible.

mmmmmmm...two months shy of 6 years ago.
For the past 24+ months, we've been shipping out non-prescription orders in roughly 2-3 days from receipt of order. Single vision Rx in about a week from receipt of order.
Big on-hand inventory of glass lenses and frames. New items such as camera filters and cellphone camera filters. A good website shopping cart system that keeps us in contact with our customers. I respond to Facebook messages usually within 5-10 minutes *most of time within 3 minutes according the FaceBook report I received last month*. E-mail usually within an hour during the day, and first thing in the morning for overnight e-mails (and that includes the weekends). The telephone is tough, we've got an answering machine and I try to keep up, but I'm also running machines and keeping up with orders...a two man shop is a very busy place.
I don't think its fair to pass judgement on me if you've had me blocked for the past couple of years and didn't bother to take the time to even investigate what I've posted and contributed here over the past two years. You have the right to your opinion of me, and I'll certainly never be able to change it. You claim to not be a 'hater' yet you resurrect 6 year old threads about the bad things that happened. What about all the other businesses that have gone through bad times? Have you done the same to them or is just me?
If you get in my face and come at me gangbusters, I'm not going to respond well -- you should know that from the past, that hasn't changed and probably never will, and most of the people I know would react the exact same way. Your comment about "Past Performance is No Guarantee of Future Results" is true for EVERYONE, including you.
My customers are important to me, whether I sold them a pair 20 years ago or just yesterday. Ask the folks who come back for repairs and new pairs when the old ones finally roll over and die. Ask the folks that I've gone above and beyond for, where I've warrantied out replacements, or sent out kids glasses at no charge for their kids to be safe in the home studio. Ask the folks who will NEVER go anywhere else but Aura to buy eyewear.
Your personal opinion of me isn't important in the big scheme of things. Whether or not you buy from me isn't the issue here. I went through a bad time and paid for it with bad press. I've moved beyond that now.
My goal in life is not to win personality contests. It *IS* to make the best damn eyewear for glassworkers that I can.
I have been getting my glasses from Mike at Auralens for the whole of my 15+ years of glass. The first pair I bought is still in service today, scratched due to my clumsiness but totally serviceable. I remember the struggle many years back, and that was just that, many years back. I am not seeing late orders or long term waits in the years since. I have referred all of my students to him for coverage for the last 10 years.
Sure, he is feisty, however I have never seen him go off without a provocation in many many years. There are professional ways to bring light to an issue, and that is always the most productive route. If you come at him crazy, you are probably going to have that served back to you. Most of the supplier's company owners got some feist. None got here without being able to push back. It is simply the spirit of entrepreneurs making a path in an industry in its infancy. There are small businesses in our community that do not play the big bucks advertising game and we come face to face with you in forums instead. I think being accessible is important. Yes, getting Mike riled up can happen, but he has improved in large strides in the last 5 years. I think he struggles a bit with walking away from a scuffle, but so do the opposing parties that he can scuffle with, or there would be no one to retort to.
He was there for us before so many others got in the game and got it right the first time on protecting our most valuable asset as artists. He does not cheap down the product to make it less effective and more budget friendly, he is only willing to sell a product that does the real job. Cutting corners is not his style. That is what counts here, our protection.
I ordered a pair for my son this past week. Ordered on Thursday and had them in hand by Monday. Exactly what I ordered, with cases, lanyards, and all the paperwork. I can't wait for next week to level up my son on his big day. He has been using cheap Phillips glasses that are leaving him with eyes strain. I am up for a new set with my changing prescription, and that will be Mikes order to fill as well. I don't trust any other filter company to be as on top of the coatings and the quality control. My last pair of scrips were better than the ones my local optometrist had made. I need trifocals with astigmatism correction, and that is a tall order in small frames that fit my face. You will never see 3 different shades of shade 4 with Mike, it will be the one top notch shade. I only have one set of eyes, and they are in his hands. I have never been let down or disappointed. He has my trust.
In hopes of turning over a new leaf, I have copied your post to a brand new thread, Pam. Recent transactions with Aura Lens.
Thank you Misha! That is perfect. There are many chapters to every life story, and we are always growing <3
Mike's glasses are the best, honestly some of the best money I have ever spent.Bought in in 03 and still good as new,the only glass "tool" that has stayed with me over the years.Mike will even upgrade my old beloved googles to the new style for a low low price. That is unheard of to stand behind his product like that!!!Seems like Mike has been on top of sending out everything on time and such.I love your glasses Mike and glad you biz is going better than it was!
I still have and USE my first pair of Auras and they'll be 10 years old in a few months. LOVE my Auras and have no qualms referring anyone to Auralens. A lot can (and has) change in 6 years. Mike is an asset to the glass community.
my two cents, Mike has given incredibly great customer service lately, but the pair of aura lens shades i have are just too heavy to comfortably use. Sure all the phillips ones i have are plastic, but the glass lens auras i have are uncomfortably heavy, and also not as clear to look through i dont think. Mike gave me great customer service though fairly recently, to set me up with this pair.
I use my phillips shade 3 instead.
Love mine, got em straight from Mike. Super fast and great quality.
I just messeged mike through email to call me and I recieved a call within 10 minutes and had ordered my glasses. I have always had great service from Mike. When I wanted a split lens on a a pair of biker sryle sunglasses mike took on the challenge 15 years ago. Nowadays it's no big deal back then it was a super pain in the ass. But what I recieved in the mail was nothing but a top notch product that I used up until losing them on a trip 2 weeks ago. We are all passionate about what we do and some are more hot headed than others. But when you are doing something that protects people's eyes and you are the leading company doing so you have earned the right to have your voice heard and your thoughts and expertise respected.
I broke my glasses. Tried to call Aura a couple times with no answer I was thinking "here we go"
HOWEVER! I emailed mike - He replied promptly. Had my glasses sent out and just got them back fixed. I'm super happy with the warrantee program and the email customer service.
I've been critical in the past but I have nothing but good things to say in the present. Thank you mike @ Aura!
Thanks, man! If I'd have the Black frame in stock, you'd have gotten it even faster. That was one frame model that got overlooked during our restocking order, but that has been resolved now.
There are more recent reviews of Aura here. It would be great if reviews could be added there instead. ;)
Aura is the best. Period. I dont care what you say. Phillips suck big time.. Just tried another pair recently just to test the waters, and no thank you.
Dude fucked up a bit.. Give him a chance if you arent sure, because your eyes will thank you for it.
no point in repeating it.
