Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Ok guys and gals, we are about a week out from the project and we need everyone coming to have a good idea of how this is going to happen. We will have 15 torches set up with a sign up board for blow slots. When you arrive please sign up and bring your A game. We are looking for a few things. We would like everyone to be productive as possible with their torch time. We ask that people come with a little prep for their pieces and keep in mind to make things they know they can land and that we can sell. Byron B will be heading up a glass on glass slide bench so that we can stack a big grip of slides and make a kick ass display. If you are into making mibs and attachments, bring them. If you are into reversals, make a bunch. Bring finished pieces, frame worked pieces, pulled tube, anything including tools that you think you will need. Glasses are a must. Please be swift and mercilous with your torch time. The last thing we ask is that you have a good time. Detroit is an amazing city and we hope everyone who comes has the best time. We have lined up some of the best talent in the city for your entertainment, have amazing sponsors who are bringing in local culture and our friends and family are all people you need to meet. We intend on killing it and making a fat stack of cash for the Belle Isle Aquarium. Message me if you have any questions. Thanks everyone! THhttp://www.themichiganglassproject.com/

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Detroit rule #1 DON'T LEAVE VALUABLE IN YOUR CAR. That goes for any major city.
That's shitty though. Sucks that's the impression Detroit has to leave on him.

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Random crime happens all over... doesn't seem to me that Detroit is any worse than say, Philadelphia or Chicago crimewise.
I'm sticking around for a couple of weeks, hoping take more photos of the unique scenery around the city and blow some glass!
J How just might be cursed. Next time y'all come down to New Mexico, we'll show ya some petty crime and poor highway safety!

yes, detroit was one hell of an adventure. ironically, right in front of urban pheasants studio i wrecked my new Audi S4 on I75. someone was trailering a car in the opposite lanes and lost a wheel. it came over the median, missed the car in front me and tagged my front end. fortunately i was not driving like i had been the night before and managed to hit a little more slowly. i dont' want to know what that would have been like, because even at 35mph it still did 7K worth of damage. but all will be well, just have to get back to the D to pick her up next week, and one more excuse to party with you guys... which by the way, y'all know how to represent!

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
We are getting ready to fire up the Michigan Project machine again. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see, know artists we should bring on board, or have two cents to throw into the pot, we are open to hear it. We are also starting to contact sponsors, so if there is a specific company you think we should ask to join us, let us know. Thanks for all the support. We ended up donating $12,000 to the Belle Isle Aquarium here in Detroit. The mark has been set.

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
I suggest donating the money to norml or any other NON DETROIT charity. And bring in nomad and Red for sure
-
Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Those are great suggestions Janky. I would like to see both of this guys come out and show their stuff. I will bring the idea up of donating to a non Detroit charity to the next meeting. Hope to see you there too.

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Majority of the artist and people attending are from the area so why not keep the money local. Maybe donate to another detorit charity besides the belle isle aquarium maybe give the proceeds to Gleaners community food bank or to help fund art programs in the local schools.
