Am I the only one on here who is going to suggest that Dizzle just buy a bigger torch?

If you can afford it, and think you need it, go for it.
You may learn down the road that you didn't need the upgrade, or maybe it'll turn out to be a great purchase for you.

If you can't afford a new, bigger torch, then just try to rock what you have even harder - you should be convinced by now that in the right hands the MidRange is capable of all sorts of shit.

As for advice on getting a bigger torch, well it's not hard to find out on here what torches are actually larger.

All great advise, but I think the most important thing everyone forgot to tell you is.....stop making oil burners....lol, that's just bad karma, stick to the happy hippy pipes :) unless of course you meant concentrate pieces, whole different meaning...just sayin'

If I hould make full size bubs on a national, a midrange should be rockin. I think everone should start on a national, then you know what a small flame is. Keep workin that torch, I know people who rage on a midrange.

Normally I love threads like this. My only advice to the OP is the only legit advice I got from bitch-cunt who "trained" me: MORE HEAT!!! 90% of the time, that's the root of the problem when you're learning. And once you've been implementing this solution for a month or two, the answer becomes TOO MUCH HEAT!!! And in another month, the answer will again be MORE HEAT!!! My heart goes out to you, it does suck trying to learn without having ANYONE to guide you, but thankfully you know of this place so you're not totally up shit creek. But lurking is good. Just rage your torch more. And if it's still not enough, upgrade. Your repliers speak truth, take heed.

I was actually getting a kick out of this thread until Mer posted a jest that I just can't find funny for the life of me. I can laugh at damn near anything. But I can't laugh at a rape victim. Really, Mer, you're obviously knowledgeable and I got a lot of respect for you, you've been super-helpful or just outright funny as fuck in almost every post I see you throw out. But now people are trying to get laughs from that girls life being ruined. Classy.

A friend of mine works 50mm Heavy I/O, with a Midrange/Minor. Can't get him to go to a "better" torch.

He's been doing this for about 10 years and his work is very intricate and complicated.

Quit whining about your torch and learn your basics.

I have an Nortel with the redmax upgrade, I've been on it for about 7 years now, and I'm able to work 50mm tubing on it. Hell, I made a slightly wonky 2" marble on the thing.

Don't blame the tool, blame the tool using it. Be patient, and learn to use your torch. Oh, and get the upgrade, it does help a bit.

I guess I'll just keep melting and being the best blower I can be and hope for the best when it comes to AGI. And, while we're on the topic, how does the invitational work? Do you have to request an invitation, or is there some kind of panel that tracks down the right people and sends out invites individually? Not that I'm good enough to be a part of it or anything, I'm just wondering as to the nature of the event if anyone knows.

jestr agi is for sure not an invite only to the elite artist. although there are a whole shitload that are there every year.
it can be attended by anyone that purchases a ticket. tom and elaine are two of the greatest people in the glass community but they are not rich so this event cost a few bucks and i mean that literally for what you get out of it.

i dont think they are sold out yet and i can assure you it is an opportunity of a lifetime that you will seek year after year.

Thank you, Stroker, I appreciate the info. I'll have to make myself a little lump of cash for a ticket, then; I'd be happy as a clam for an opportunity to rub elbows with the best in the biz. I've been to one trade show and I learned volumes just from being there and seeing what exists, what people are making, and some of the mind-boggling ways that blowers are pushing the envelope. Learning by osmosis is fun and all, but AGI sounds just like the opportunity of a lifetime that everyone makes it out to be. One more thing for me to do before I consider myself a professional, I guess. May I be lucky enough to attend sometime soon!
