Crip you your own QA department for dillys huh? HAHA Can't wait to see what kind of madness comes off that lathe. Im imagining something like a Zong, but actually looks cool, and has some color.
Oh, btw, HMK, where do you go for the ti plate parts? I can't seem to find anything on the search and really need to make a oil unit for myself, and the verdict seems to be the bell-types like you make are the way to go.
i can send you a piece if you want, send me a pm, i buy large sheets of it. i dont know where to get small amounts really.
nice dichro work,i still cant do that shit, lol,,thanks for sharing, peace LEAR
That is high praise right there!^^
thanks LEAR :)
not sure how to get this stuff to look good. i cant burn the AP scum off now i dont think, without wrecking it, can i, and when i do, it seems to just go mostly see thru and look like unob a lot, but actually, i guess at the weld it is not that green really, more purple. hard to burn the scum off on that main can and mouthpiece without it all sinking in tho..

looks like you burned the haze off pretty nice around that clear dot on the side. the bell looks great too!
ya thats the thing, in order to attach the clear dots i melted the sidewall till it was soft a bit. i guess i coulda tried to flame polish the whole thing free of it. i'll finger it out.
with the ap you have to turn up the o2 and heat it up white hot or untill the color turns clear then your good to go it may only look slightly amber, yellow but u can either flame strike it or make your piece and strike it in the kiln i love the ap and that would be my .02 on how to get rid of the haze.
ya i get the picture. i guess i need to make sure i have fully oxy flame the whole time i make my tube. thanks for the tips :)
its more about making the color go completely clear this sets it up for the striking phase. once it goes entirely clear you can strike it out by letting it get cold (no glow at all) check it by holding the piece under your bench where it is darkest. If it still has a faint glow to it wait until it is completly gone then strike it in the back of the flame by bring it back up to a dull orange glow. It should only take it a second or two. The longer you strike it the darker it gets until you over strike it and make it clear again.
You want it to look clear until you throw it in the kiln.
exp green on fumed clear, thanks for the tip dom.
