My name is Rich. I'm new to glasswork. I spent many years as a factory maintenance tech before running away to the Caribbean. I've been a boat captain for over 12 years now and it's time to reinvent myself, again. Glasswork is something I've always wanted to do and I've had friends who do it. So that's where I'm headed now.
Names David. Spent entirely too much money on glass in my college years and trying to visually dissect every piece of glass I saw. Decided to spend all my money on making it instead. Been on the torch for 2 weeks and making implosion pendants and a couple onies already wahoo!! Anyway, nice to meet and greet, looking forward to picking up more skills from you talented and knowledgeable folks.
aaron,i have been doing neon work since early 89 and started some boro work about 1.5 years ago and am hoping to blend them together

Whats up everyone?
My name is Jimmi Palmer. I Run a small recycling company. I also refine gold and silver as a hobby. I love the way glass art and functional pieces look. I don't really blow any glass myself, just bend tube when iI break a piece of lab ware. I would love to learn some techniques for scientific glass production but at this point getting my company to grow has to come first.
any way I have applied for a vendors badge and will be posting gold and silver for sale in the vendors glassifieds. So if you ever need any look me up.
thanks and keep up the beautiful work.
Peace n Love,
JIMMI P
Hey everyone,
Great to finally join this community of such immense knowledge. I would like to thank everyone here for their inspiration and contributions. I'm finally setting up a little studio in the next couple months, so am researching and looking to buy all sorts of stuff. I'm from London, Ontario, Canada, so if any local canucks around, definitely send me a shout.
Thanks everyone, hope to see you around.

Hello, my name is Ray, and I have been attempting to learn to make glass pipes, marbles, and whatever else i can teach myself. There definetely seems to be alot of info here to help me. I have not made anything that reallyqualifies as decent yet, but ill try to post pics at some point.
Hey, I'm Cal, I started in Sept. 2009, I'm in the process of opening my own studio in Toronto Ontario and it feels good. I've been lurking around here for a while so its good to finally be part of the community.
whats up everyone names mateo been collecting for about 2 years and found my life needed something new something i can really put some time and effort into. so i decided to take a couple classes this last weekend and believe i have really found what i was looking for. spent about 8 hours behind the torch so far and made some quite a few beads with soft glass. cant wait to jump into the boro side when the time comes. My girlfriend joined in and loved it to so we will be setting up shop in a large shed/small house we have in our backyard. just thought id introduce myself. Im really looking forward into diving in and learning all i can from all the knowledgeable people on this site. thanks all and have a great day !
John H. Just started into lampwork/marbles about 2 months ago. Loving it so far.
Hobbies:
Metal Detecting. Started this with my dad back in the late 80s and been doing it sence. Over time of hunting have found bottles(which got me into collecting bottles) Also found marbles(which also got me into collecting them too) One hobby leads to another i guess lol
Magic. Yep i can make things vanish(lol not really) My learning is more of the close up magic. Cards,Coin,etc...
Lampwork. My new hobby and so far i'm loving it.
If anyone has pointers please point. Any Do's and Don'ts let me hear em.
Heres a few of my Marbles. Sorry about the bad pic. it's from my phone.
Thanks
Hi. I'm Nathan, and my wife is Donna. We both got started in lampworking about 2 months ago with a weekend class in St. Louis. We've got a basic studio set up in an outside workshop at home. (Propane heater definitely comes in handy - been a bit chilly working out there recently.) I'm an IT administrator, and she's a stay-at-home mom. Our 9 year old daughter Emily has also made a bead or two, but she's not nearly focused enough to do it without very close attention.
Equipment: oxygen tank, three oxygen concentrators, two minor torches
We started out with the oxygen tank (a mistake in retrospect, but I wanted something simple to begin with), bought the first concentrator for around $150, and got the second pair of them for $170. We run just the more recent two because they are quieter and have the third as a spare. We're likely going to build a simple cabinet on the outside of our workshop to put the concentrators in for even more noise reduction.
We don't have a kiln yet, though that will likely be on the list. We're using vermiculite pre-warmed in a roaster oven (like a crockpot but gets to 450 degF).
I've attached a couple of pictures of the workspace.
Let me introduce myself... My name is Wes. I use to spend all my time collecting records and making beats... I've been an artist all of my life. For the first time I have found an art I can actually make money with. So now I have no free time because I'm too busy melting glass. I have been in front of the torch a little over a year now and it is my second job. My first job is raising a beautiful 3 year old girl. I live in the Reno/Tahoe area. Anyone else blowing glass in my neck of the woods? Thanks for all the free info and entertainment! -Wes aka destrukt the librarian.
Hail fellow flameworkers! :D
I have finally made the necessary steps to get back into flameworked glass after a long stent. I am starting from the ground up - with soft this time and a Hot Head kit.
I trained under an amazing boro and later soft artist (who pushed the edge of super delicate and detailed work) for about 2 years, but couldn't make it a priority enough to purchase equipment for myself.
But here I am, ready to relearn and transition to the squishiness (and affordability) of soft!

heyyyyyyy i'm kaylyn, i live in virginia (lamest place ever!) and i just started working at a glass shop, but in the office. yeah it's complete torture while everyone is just outside this room blowing glass while i'm making phone calls.. but i'm set on getting into blowing as soon as the opportunity arises. im definitely not meant for an office.
well there kaylyn, welcome to the shight show..

My name is Seth, I'm x military and have a year, to freely attempt to melt glass and or burn myself, before I have to be a responsible adult and get a job. Wish me luck it's time to capture a dream and beat it into submission.
:puzzled: Still trying to see how this forum works. Need my own set up. torch and kiln the most! renting space till then!:twitch:
Hello all! I am Matt, I've been breathing for 27 years, and I am living just outside of Richmond, Va. I've been behind the torch for 3-4 years, making mostly pendants and marbles. I just recently attempted to sell my marbles to stores, everyone liked them and everyone told me marbles don't sell. Thinking about drifting into pipemaking (this seems to pay the bills). I am a full-time college student and would love to use glass as my income, however it doesn't seem easy.

I got into collecting seriously a few years ago thanks in part to the Joint Boston. I went to the pipe classic in sep 2010 and then my interest and understanding of glass really grew. I have mad love for all the artists that ever hooked me up with dope prices on glass.
Actually, thats a cool name, and now, im craving some orange sherbert!

Hiya all!
Been lurking on the site for couple of weeks now and loving the place, thought it was about time i introduced myself...
I'm Russ, a 36yo native Oregonian living in Springfield. I got my first taste of lampworking back around '99, for a couple of weeks I got to play with a friends torch and learned to make shroom pendants and such. Unfortunately do to a promotion at my "real" job i gave up before really getting into it.
A month or so ago one of my old-time friends tracked me down online after years of us being out of touch (ok, maybe i hate social networking a little less now :p ), he offered me a chance to come over and fire up a torch in his shop. I almost didn't do it, honestly I was kinda 'meh' about the subject when it was brought up...
Well, as you can see, now I'm here. Within 5 min of being behind the burner again I knew what i wanted to do for the rest of my days. :)
I'm still working on the basics and this site has been a fountain of information, I'm grateful for y'all putting it together!
