Yas me tooo.
Hey,
Just moved to NYC
On the torch for 3 or 4 years. Worked in a hotshop for a little bit. Looking for a place to make some glass art now!
I also study with an instrument builder.
I can't remember if I've posted here or not (I have attention "issues," LOLOL), but here goes.
I'm Chris(tine) Hansen and I live on the wet side of the Cascades, dangerously close to Frantz Art Glass.
I've been lampworking for about a year and a half now; I run a Minor on natural gas and an oxycon. I've been doing soft glass beads mostly, but am eagerly awaiting some clear and amber purple boro (it should be here TODAY!!!!!) so I can start learning to work boro.
I also design and create mixed media jewelry using my lampwork beads - you can see examples of my work here: http://hansens.smugmug.com/gallery/1...99858043_kvKjY
I'm also a freelance writer - most of my writing is advertising copy/public relations stuff, but once in a while I get to write about something more interesting than cars - you may have seen the profile I did of Gail Crosman Moore in the current issue of The Flow. :D (Gail, if you're reading this, rest assured, you're waaay more interesting than cars!)
My other recent work includes getting the Art Glass Color Database wiki up and running. Here's the link: www.glasscolors.wetpaint.com
When I'm not melting glass, or thinking about melting glass, I'm raising my two high-maintenance kids (can't live with them, can't sell them for glass money, LOLOL), working on our organic veggie garden, or watching anime. You may remember hearing about my DH Jerry, the Super Hub who built me the Most Amazing and Incredible Torch Booth for my birthday last summer and who finances my glass habit, LOLOL.
I'm grateful for this forum and the opportunity to play with fire on a regular basis.
Peace,
Chris in OlyWA
i lived in ft. collins, years ago... still have friends there, that i call family...

Hello all. I have been lurking since the black board.
My name is Chris Thomas. I started melting glass around 2000-2001. I blew glass for 2 years and quit when other things started getting in the way. I started back about 9 months ago.
I cant wait for IGI and I hope to meet a bunch of you in Vegas!!!
well hello there, this is Matt Tyner of BlueLilyStudio AKA hooly...Asheville NC...
welcome aboard
Hey everyone. I'm in Tucson.
I don't have the funds or space to work with glass yet, but hopefully that will change in the distant future. Right now I'm trying to learn as much as I can through DVD's, forums, youtube, etc. because this art simply fascinates me. Hopefully whatever I learn will give me a head-start whenever I start working with glass. I'll probably try to take some lessons with people here and there.

Welcome MW. You're not alone - that's just how I started. Broke and armed with only the Internet. This place is a great resource. Just gotta get around some of the personallities - they mean well, most of the time. :D

EDIT> there, now i seem friendlier, right?
I've been doing glass for quite a few years with brief breaks to recharge my sanity and take care of my family. The evolution and creativity is amazing. Some of the pieces have so many techniques involved that it can be difficult to fathom the passion, time and determination of the artist. It is like inspiration overlode. Anyway this is my first post because I am still a caveman when it comes to this digital stuff. I'm 35 and this is my first computer. I wish that I could say that I was raised in an Ahmish commune but in all reality I am just not technologically savvy. Savvy?
Introducing my filthy godbrotha, lock up yer womenfolk.
