Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hey now! I am Joanne and I have been lampworking for about 11 years now. I have been one of those "bead ladies" most of that time, but here I am, now in a new glass shop and ready to jump over to the boro side.
Now that I've made a couple of marbles, I feel comfy outting myself.
I am in western ma, and Mojoglass is where you can find me.
Of course, I have been reading over here for some time.....you have taught me much already, so thank you!

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hammer here. I've been a scientific glassblower for 25 years. I'm currently working on my "retirement" business plan. I will have enough scientific work to make some money but I want to establish a product line of art work as well. I'm in the process of figuring out where my studio will be. I'm leaning towards a 15 * 15 shed although the attached garage is still an option depending on what the Insurance nazi has to say.

Hi, everyone the names Tarqy aka Dan from the UK. It all started for me when I watched Degenerate art on netflix, and then I looked into vortex marbles on google images and WOW I got sucked in. So now I've decided to take it further, I got myself on a beadmaking class a couple of weeks ago and soon after got myself a little setup. I'm now in the process of building my studio and found this place very informative. Anyway just a quick hello and cheers...

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Howdy! My name is Tony T, I'm located for now in bakersfield, ca. I've mainly been lurking here soaking up as much information as I can, but have posted a few times. I have been in love with art glass since I got my first real handmade heady piece almost 3 years ago. I just recently(just over 2 weeks) started working with soft glass on a devardi(hothead knockoff.) I've been able to make pendants and even a few marbles I liked, and a bunch of others that weren't so great. Once I have a little more to post I'll start a progression thread but more then anything I'm here to learn! Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge and experience, I'm starting to realize that the art glass community is just as cool as the glass itself! Have great days :)

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hi folks. Names Garrett. First worked boro in 2008. Only lasted a few months. Found a torch to play with again in 2010. Again only lasted a few months. Got my own torch (GTT Scorpion) in 2012, then my Carlisle CC in 2013. Been full time (for the most part) ever since. Mostly doing prodo style wrap and rakes. Though when I can get my hands on a tank or two I plug in the Carlisle and do some prodo I/O work. Still very much so a beginner but I'd like to be your friend. Find me on the facebook with Pieceful Glassworks. Peace.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hello all,
Name's Austin Hensley (Hensley Artglass) first got addicted to the torch at nine years of age watching miniatures be made at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Got my first torch in my early teens and have been working with glass full time for a handful of years but have been torching for roughly 15 years. I make a lot of pendants and some functional pieces. My studio is stuffed into the front ten feet of a 1964 GMC Coach and my family owns and runs a full service gas station out of a 1942 vintage Texaco station. I have been making these Glasstronaut pendants for a couple years hope you all like them.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hi! I'm Silverfox, I posted my intro into the wrong place and cannot seem to locate it! I'm 32, married, mostly friendly, and I just started an apprenticeship with Slimy-E about a month ago.
I work with a carlisle mini CC, and I am excellent at making puny rods explode (Hulk SMASH!) by complete accident, but the casualties have decreased significantly recently.
:chemist:
My body of work thus far is taking countless small rods and making them into larger, crooked rods- I'd post pics, but I'll spare you.
In the next week (maybe today) I'll start making something at least interesting looking. I am told I should be able to make flowers- I will not promise the sick skills to make anything that looks remotely cool like a flower on my first try, (my teacher is awesome, though) but I will gladly post my attempts!
If it doesn't look like a "flower" I shall call it "modern art".... and imply to my friends that it represents some obscure emotion or something- and pretend to look offended they don't "get" it. I kinda look forward to that as well.
:evilLaugh:
I'm taking it slow- I'm on SSDI, and want to make sure I learn everything I can without cutting any corners... I have sketchbooks worth of ideas within plans for a few years out when I can actually make some of the twisted things in my mind into reality... in the meantime (...great song by Spacehog)... I expect most of what I make will be terrible in the glass-world, but passable "modern art" outside of this forum as long as I accompany my failings with long, complicated explanations to non-glass people, it will be AWESOME!
...Then I will sneak into art museums.... (No, I won't. Maybe)
Eventually, I want to focus on sub-culture/ obscure religious pieces- name a non-gang subculture, I will make them pipes (or whatever else they may want) one day: Zef, Brony, Furry, Comicon, Steampunk, Asatru, Vampire, Druids, Mimes, Discordians.... So many pipes will I make for them. I will dress as they dress, talk as they talk, set up a table in about 10 years and infiltrate their conventions. First: puny rods....then, {years away}...THE WORLD! BWAHAHAHA!
:zim:
I love fire, friend requests, terrible memes, sick jokes, ....and fire. ...also, these emoticons are SICK!, so expect me to randomly put way too many of them in any single post as well as random memes.
I am stoked to be here, I am excited to meet everyone and I have been enjoying my time lurking and learning from all of you- ...and have also been told I write like I'm trapped perpetually in 1998. I prefer to talk via pictures.
Much love!

Re: Rollcall
Hi all,
Greetings from the Black Hills of South Dakota. I am in the minority here. Haven't even started melting glass, but I've had the good luck of finding a resource that a lot of glass folks use, oxygen concentrators. More than I will ever need. So I figured I'd give it a try.
Been a machinist for 30+ years, and a lot of the same mental disciplines apply. Watch out for sharp edges, that is hot, Hey! Don't put your finger there! You get the idea. I do have all my fingers BTW.
Got acquainted with a local beadmaker and she is willing to give me a short lesson. I am looking forward to the weeks and months ahead. Be safe!
Cheers,
Brett

Hi Hokiglass,
Glad you posted. I am new to the forum also, but welcome.
I was in Hokitika in February '07 after a season on the ICE in Antarctica. Such a nice little town, I did not want to leave. Sorry, but I cant remember if I was in your studio or not. I'm going to get back there one day, it's on my bucket list. Take care!
Cheers,
Brett

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hi everyone!
I don't have any experience at all on the torch...complete virgin. I do love glass though, and have always been playing with fire since I'm real young. I'm a 25 yo guy. I am situated in Montreal and I'm currently researching if it's doable and economically viable. Where to get the glass. Do I get fucked ordering from the states for special colors and all, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Can't wait to try out the torch!
