Bloodletting was the withdrawal of often considerable quantities of blood from a patient to cure or prevent illness and disease. A number of different methods were employed. The most common was phlebotomy, or venesection (often called "breathing a vein"), in which blood was drawn with a scalpel or needle from one or more of the larger external veins, such as those in the forearm or neck. Leeches could also be used. The withdrawal of so much blood as to induce syncope (fainting) was considered beneficial, and many sessions would only end when the patient began to swoon.

pogo - you're kicking ass. nice work on the bone/texture experiment - the texture is amazing, and the coloring is, well, ooky, which is what i think you were aiming for. :twitch:
your flametree entry is well worth a vote, and first place. tell anyone who doesn't vote for you, i'm gonna make 'em walk the plank.
Holy shit it's been a while since i've posted... I've really wanted to MANY times but have been FUCKING BUSY... That bein said, here is a couple month recap.
Nov 6&7, 2010, Got invited to blow glass for 2 days at 3 day music festival for local headshop "The BC" (headiest store in Austin, I'm sure some cats know...(My shit is not comparable to MOST of their glass)...) But it was awesome, and I got to kick it with CDot for a couple days... Got backstage passes(free and Quick the first day :D) and met a couple of the Suicidal Tendencies, Mastodon and GWAR!!!!!! Gave GWAR bunch of pipes and hung with Flattus Maxximus after show for safety session\glass lesson... Got numbers from (possibly?)Jailbaits after demos :D This taught me the TRUE power of the flame.. (makes the walls slick, huh ladies) All in All AMAZING opportunity.. Thanks again to Cdot and The BC Smokeshop(facebook 'em)
Nov 11 - 4 year old Abducted Daughter (gone for 6 months) brought home, I was elated, and took around a MONTH off of heavy torchin to be back down south and get reacquainted with kiddo. Started smoking again Nov 8 in nervous anticipation of her return.. (Nov 19 09 - Nov 8 10 cold turkey, back to pack a day) Quit again on New Years, so far so good.. Also, Della (daughter) lives with me in Austin and I've got her in daycare (they moved her to pre-k because she was a smarty pants (PROUD FATHER))...
Of course, as single dad, I spend truthfully about 19 hours a day ON THE GO... wouldn't trade the responsibility of that kid for the world, though, and i can rest when i'm dead, LOL.
Back to Glass - been pushin myself (when I get playtime) above my comfort zone.. Also, Feel really good about the way the apprenticeship worked out... I graduate on Jan 24(my birthday) and as BDAY\Graduation gift Instructor\Friend HOSS got us tickets to OZZY and Slash ON THAT DAY :D
I now can make things my little brain sees to some degree. There is still TONS to learn and practice, but it's the best lifestyle ever.
I also laugh when I look back at this thread at how radically my glass knowledge has matured, and how i thought i kinda knew what i was doin.... There are SO MANY epiphanal moments in this game... Also, I've seen other newbs that make wonky janked shit (and damned proud of it ) like i used to, And get a kick out of having been there.
I don't take enough pics, and usually if somethin is cooler than prodo it gets dirty, given away or sold before i can...
Here is a piece I did over XMAS to send to a brother in glass. (sorry about poor image scaling quality, I gave my powerhouse PC to my mother for XMAS so i didn't have to fix hers =])
i like it.. really cool techniques your developing
and it makes me wonder when zombies first got an x on their foreheads.
i remember it from the lasexorcisto devil music artwork.
Glad to read that you have your child in hand.
Glad to read that your glass knowledge has radically matured.
This is the way is should be.
Your daughter + your glass = success
I wish you continued good work with your glass, work hard.
Kids take time. And you can have it cause you push bowls. I hope you are successful in designing a system where you can work enough and spend time enough with your little one. If things get bad remember that really there are a whole lot of people in this world with daughters that would kill for an independent way to earn a living (even if it was meager).
Pogo, may you be on the jump. Good luck.
Great piece man. Your work is coming along quite nicely.
Nice work all the way around
Nice work!, Man I love skulls , and that's a badass lil kiln, nice custom paint Brotha! Melt On
Pogo - I am SOOOOO very happy for you and Della and wish you both the best from here on out! Congrats on being thisclose to finishing your apprenticeship - and very nice piece, BTW. :kickflip:

I really appreciate all of the complements.. Although I make a living as a piper, I still feel like my work is FAR from were I want to be (success is a journey), and am truly humbled by your responses...

My Apprenticeship is OVER -
A Huge thanks to HOSS - Dude, You totally taught me to fish. My accomplishments are a testament to your ability to teach... I couldn't thank you enough. In a short year I learned SO MUCH... We've been on over sixty sales together and I sold over 2,100 pcs... I couldn't imagine where i would be now, if it weren't for all your help and support, both in glass and life. Thank you again. :D
Holy shit, I'm a professional piper!!!!!!!!!!!!
SWEET!!!! Congrats Pogo, your turning out some really sweet pieces...
