I'm taking a break from moving. So tired and hot after the first truck load. We have two more people working too.

The I/o milli spoons didn't make the cut. Too inconsistent in size I was told. No more than 1/2 inch in size variation.

I've run into the same problem in reverse. I've always made a lot more inside out stuff than anything else, takes me a while switching over

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I like making the bubblers the most. It's because I have to open the kiln door the least. Kiln is making it hot in here with the door open. Putting color like milli and encased color in the kiln with the door open is hot.

What form of gold have you been buying? Shot? I'm needing to add some gold to the tool box, myself. Trying to find the lowest mark up to convenience ratio
Silver is so cheap that I don't mind paying the premium on wire
I dig the little standing bubs

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I used a 14k gold ring I had. I cut it up and melted it down. I just bought 24k gold wire on ebay for really cheap. I buy the sterling silver shot myself for like $20 a troy oz.
-
Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I think I have a gold necklace I can melt down also. I have a watch ring that is stamped 18k but I am not sure I want to cut it up yet.

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I got a $1.50 raise in price for the silver and gold fumed bubblers. So they are $13.50 each for my distributor who orders a lot of them. As many as I can make. This is pictures of part of a partial order I did. I could not finish the entire order. I needed more time to make more wrap and rake and I ran out of yellow to make more rasta spoons.

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I know it sucks but my glass is about 25% retail price glassblower and 75% sales.

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I tried to rep you again but it wouldnt let me. +1 for even putting your numbers out there, that takes alot of "i dont give a f", which i like. I cant wait to see where the dollar value ends up pipes in the future.

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
thanks. I just sold another spin station and I have to get to the mail box now. The $60 bonus from retailing the spin station myself add up. Mang.

Hey man, forgive my ignorance, but I am not sure what these are. Maybe they are spinning tops, or maybe a base for fidget spinners? TIA

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
Sterling silver? 14K gold? Really man? Do yourself a favor and get pure metals to fume with. Your results will be much more consistent, you will get more out of it because you don't lose weight while burning the other metals off, the colors you will be more "pure", etc. Using alloys, you are fuming other metals which you really probably shouldn't be, and adding unwanted impurities to your fume work and the air around you. Not to mention, at $20 per troy ounce of sterling silver, you area hardly saving money, and may be costing yourself extra money by cutting up jewelry to use what little gold is in there.

Sterling silver is pure silver. I got some 24k gold too for the next batch.

Gold is really expensive right now but I got 6 inches of wire on eBay for $22 shipping included.

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
Sterling is not pure. Sterling is .925, and pure is .9999.. May not seem like a huge difference, but there is still other metals present. Gold is cheap right now. $40 per gram.. A gram will last you a long time, even with heavy use.
Edit.. Sterling is 92.5 percent purity. Fine is 99+

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
on the plus side, gold stretches forever if you're careful with your starting piece
gotta grab some up myself, man I wish I'd bought a bunch when I first started a million years ago...I miss $350 an ounce. I remember remarking that I was paying more for smoke than I was for gold at the time
Do you have a gram scale? I'd love to compare what you get for your money with that wire versus buying by weight

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
I bought .999 fine silver. In college I thought I leaned that sterling was the same. I took metal from a famous jeweler.

$1,250 an oz is really expensive. Used to be $350 oz when I used it a lot.

I bought a gold chain for $350 on my honeymoon. I sold it for $900 to cover travel back from California years ago.

Re: Nomad's Work, Critique, talk, etc....
Well, of course $1,250 per ounce is expensive when we all remember when it was $350 or below.. But who the hell is buying an ounce of gold to fume with?! Seriously, a gram will last you a long time, which cost $40 dollars. No need to bring the price of an OZ. into the discussion, when that really does not pertain to it. Doesn't matter if a famous jeweler told you sterling is pure. He was incorrect..

no, it is not pure silver. it's sterling. 92% at best. listen to cheesenip, he knows the fume game better than you.

silver of 92 1/2 percent purity.
.9999 fine silver is the best you can get, and yes it produces better colors than .999 fine silver.
