Thanks for the welcome!
P.S.
I think I did a bad job expressing what I meant with the ^ comment... I've been on the other end of newbies asking the same question over and over too, and know how annoying it is. I guess I was trying to say I wont be lazy on this forum and add to that problem :chilling:.
Peace.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
I have recently begun my journey into torchwork with hopes of supplementing our household income (as well as dreams of being the only income). The biggest draw for me isn't the money though ... it's the creative potential in a fairly unique medium.
I have been fascinated with glass most of my life, but only recently had the opportunity to work it myself. When a friend offered to teach me his trade, I jumped on the opportunity with both feet. Needless to say, nothing ever comes easy.
Now that my studio is almost complete, my friend decided he doesn't want the competition and refuses to train me. Being a stubborn sort of guy, I figure I'll just have to teach myself. After all, Google has all the answers, right?
Anyhoo ... hope I haven't bored you. I'll be around for a while, I'm sure, and will do my best not to be too much of a pest.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
hey godling. Good luck - same as you, didn't really have the creativity thing going on but I've still managed to put together a nice catalog of designs over the past couple years. Started out without any help too - sucks that he won't teach you anything but you'll appreciate it more as you pick it up on your own. Watch youtube vids and there's a lot of great info on here.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hey everyone. Been flameworking for six years. Started out in my moms garage, graduated from SCC art program in 2007, been working at a scientific glass shop for three years. I love the technical aspects of scientific glass and have a lot of respect for scientific flameworkers, but I really started to lose interest and set off to focus on making my work. These forums have already proven invaluable and I am forever grateful to those who have dedicated their time to it. Going on your own is kinda scary but I feel lucky to have such a great resource at my fingertips. Thanks again,
Drew

I have a wife, Sara who graduated graduate school yesterday; a 6 year old beautiful girl, Ana; and a sweet little 2 year old boy, Sam. I'm extremely excited about my new shop and about growing in the world of glass! Nice to be here, I hope I'll have something to offer and lots to learn!

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hey Everyone,
My name is Corey and i'm from Clovis, NM. I've been interested in Glass for years and just finally am about to get into it. I go to a community college here for Computer IT stuff when I found we offered a Lampworking class locally. Right now, I am working 5 hours a week on the torch( Major Minor and a Carlise) and when my next school check comes I am buying a GTT Torch, yes i'm on the waiting list and it should be coming 2nd week of August. I'm getting alot out of the site and always challenging my teacher to show me things I learned from here.
I will be around for a while and will setup shop in August. thanks for having me
PS - Will be donating as soon as I get a lil Cash togetherbecause this is a wonderful learning tool and place to share trade secrets. Thanks again
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Welcome, sounds like you're doing good already if you're planning on setting up so soon, good luck.
Start yourself a work thread when you feel like sharing, then you check your progress as you go.
No secrets, just different techniques; it's how you apply them :o)
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Thanks, I plan on starting a Progression Thread when my shop is setup, right now I am doing animals, pendents, and flowers as class requirements; After I do my "project" for the Day in class, I get to mess around on the torch for about 2 hours. I've made twisty cane, ribbon cane, pulled my own milli with my inital in it(for later), and now im working 25mm heavy wall into jars. I look forward to makin my own thread soon need a camera first tho.

Been on the torch for about 2 1/2 yrs...Worked out of 11th hour glass in Burlington VT before it closed down, out in Denver now, Awesome community here, Thanks to all that share and those that push the limits.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Shannon here aka shanman/I wish glass. I've been working glass for 12years, each year becoming more frustrated with it... and loving it.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
oxyvolve here, been into offhand for about 6 years, and just recently got a torch, loving the lampworking, glass is all "new" again, and loving the melting pot, cant wait to meet more glass junkies like myself, not too many where i live.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hey Melting Pot.
I've been torching about three months and cramming this site for bout twice that maybe. What a badass community. I was on a national 8m for a very short while. I got a redmax bout a month or so ago, and a proper bowl push last week. so im looking forward to throwing a progression thread up here and watching it come along.
as far as intros go, I'm Steven and i run a little enviro pest management company, though my education is in sociology/oil painting. I freakin hate the service industry and hope i can pay off my $50000 student loan by blowing glass one day. ill be piping for the cheese and hoping to do some kinda sculpture as well.
Thanks for all the good stuff.
here's my mug with a creepy stache
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hi all, I'm Scott, I never really introduced myself--been on the torch for 7mo. I thank everyone for all the great posts and threads I've been reading---mostly is silence, don't want to annoy everyone with stupid newbie questions. Though the replies have been wonderful when I've asked, thanks again!!!
