Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
John H. Just started into lampwork/marbles about 2 months ago. Loving it so far.
Hobbies:
Metal Detecting. Started this with my dad back in the late 80s and been doing it sence. Over time of hunting have found bottles(which got me into collecting bottles) Also found marbles(which also got me into collecting them too) One hobby leads to another i guess lol
Magic. Yep i can make things vanish(lol not really) My learning is more of the close up magic. Cards,Coin,etc...
Lampwork. My new hobby and so far i'm loving it.
If anyone has pointers please point. Any Do's and Don'ts let me hear em.
Heres a few of my Marbles. Sorry about the bad pic. it's from my phone.
Thanks

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hi. I'm Nathan, and my wife is Donna. We both got started in lampworking about 2 months ago with a weekend class in St. Louis. We've got a basic studio set up in an outside workshop at home. (Propane heater definitely comes in handy - been a bit chilly working out there recently.) I'm an IT administrator, and she's a stay-at-home mom. Our 9 year old daughter Emily has also made a bead or two, but she's not nearly focused enough to do it without very close attention.
Equipment: oxygen tank, three oxygen concentrators, two minor torches
We started out with the oxygen tank (a mistake in retrospect, but I wanted something simple to begin with), bought the first concentrator for around $150, and got the second pair of them for $170. We run just the more recent two because they are quieter and have the third as a spare. We're likely going to build a simple cabinet on the outside of our workshop to put the concentrators in for even more noise reduction.
We don't have a kiln yet, though that will likely be on the list. We're using vermiculite pre-warmed in a roaster oven (like a crockpot but gets to 450 degF).
I've attached a couple of pictures of the workspace.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Let me introduce myself... My name is Wes. I use to spend all my time collecting records and making beats... I've been an artist all of my life. For the first time I have found an art I can actually make money with. So now I have no free time because I'm too busy melting glass. I have been in front of the torch a little over a year now and it is my second job. My first job is raising a beautiful 3 year old girl. I live in the Reno/Tahoe area. Anyone else blowing glass in my neck of the woods? Thanks for all the free info and entertainment! -Wes aka destrukt the librarian.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hail fellow flameworkers! :D
I have finally made the necessary steps to get back into flameworked glass after a long stent. I am starting from the ground up - with soft this time and a Hot Head kit.
I trained under an amazing boro and later soft artist (who pushed the edge of super delicate and detailed work) for about 2 years, but couldn't make it a priority enough to purchase equipment for myself.
But here I am, ready to relearn and transition to the squishiness (and affordability) of soft!

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hello all! I am Matt, I've been breathing for 27 years, and I am living just outside of Richmond, Va. I've been behind the torch for 3-4 years, making mostly pendants and marbles. I just recently attempted to sell my marbles to stores, everyone liked them and everyone told me marbles don't sell. Thinking about drifting into pipemaking (this seems to pay the bills). I am a full-time college student and would love to use glass as my income, however it doesn't seem easy.

I work with boro. I took 7 lessons in feb 2011 and I've been solo since march.i put it long hours and its been paying off. I've been gaining more control and enjoying myself.
U can call me sherb :)
I got into collecting seriously a few years ago thanks in part to the Joint Boston. I went to the pipe classic in sep 2010 and then my interest and understanding of glass really grew. I have mad love for all the artists that ever hooked me up with dope prices on glass.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hiya all!
Been lurking on the site for couple of weeks now and loving the place, thought it was about time i introduced myself...
I'm Russ, a 36yo native Oregonian living in Springfield. I got my first taste of lampworking back around '99, for a couple of weeks I got to play with a friends torch and learned to make shroom pendants and such. Unfortunately do to a promotion at my "real" job i gave up before really getting into it.
A month or so ago one of my old-time friends tracked me down online after years of us being out of touch (ok, maybe i hate social networking a little less now :p ), he offered me a chance to come over and fire up a torch in his shop. I almost didn't do it, honestly I was kinda 'meh' about the subject when it was brought up...
Well, as you can see, now I'm here. Within 5 min of being behind the burner again I knew what i wanted to do for the rest of my days. :)
I'm still working on the basics and this site has been a fountain of information, I'm grateful for y'all putting it together!
