Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Dude that last spiral is nice! I bet pictures do it no justice. I'm definitely going to try these soon. You should try drawing your spirals on a cone shaped gather and try to make your awesome opposing spirals into a vortex. I don't know if it would work but sounds cool right lol. With your punty problem, sometimes I heat up cold seals too much on small work when not being very careful and end up with a stubborn cold seal that leaves remnants of glass or takes a piece of my marble with it.

Pretty much I just fumed it and did a real sloppy wrap with clear and tequila sunrise (that's the red you see), but not really a wrap more like paint splotches as I was spinning the blank. Hope that makes sense :D

Yeah it's a really nice look, you must have fumed a ton on to get the whitish color.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Yeah I did It was when I was first learning how to fume and didn't understand that less is more.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
I think the termination in that mrb is pretty good. Not all mine come out great or anything but when they do come out well I do enjoy it. Are you doing your retti's on solid or hollow? I feel like with solid that I back the image with color before shaping any lens that way you never have to punty to the image itself. With hollow if your imploding the image you can still back it before ripping off/flame cutting the bubble you just have to be careful because if you heat too much when applying the backing you can lose your center. Also if you implode the design to the point that it is concave it can be hard to back it as well.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
your pendants are looking great! I haven't tried the opposing spirals yet, reticellos? They've scared me :o: Also, really glad to hear about you getting an order for some w/r's! I'd love to see a photo of your first "pile" of pipes, I still remember mine like it was months ago! wait.... it was :D :D
Hope all is well in leverland! Keep up the good work!
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
@ Gambit I'm doing them on solid I figure it will be good practice for when I move up to hollow retti work and they are really fun to do +rep bro for the info that's just what I was looking for.
@ Rookie yeah opposing spirals and retticello are just about the same technique. I haven't tried a retti on hollow yet but I've seen enough demos, You should try one rookie they are more intimidating than anything at first. I'll be posting pics of my pile of wrap and rakes when I do them I'm still waiting on my kiln, It's got to be getting close to done it's been 5 weeks. I got a couple more W/R orders in I'm going to be pretty busy when my kiln first comes in :twitch:

I started making some tube and rod racks yesterday this is just some pipes I had laying around the house and put them to good use. I got a bunch more PVC coming this week trading glass work for it I love trading glass work for services or goods.

Trading is the fun way to go. Now you just need some rod/tool rests for the top of your bench.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Trading is always ideal. I really like your under-bench tube/rod storage! Looks really good, I wish I had the depth/space for something like that!
That being said, check out this thread I just posted about color racks! Recently got on top of organizing my shop, Kato saw what I had done and we made a bunch of these:

Here's a new pendant, I'm learning to work this exotic green without over working it pretty tricky but I'm getting it. I like this color it is kicking out some pretty awesome colors.

Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Yeah I would agree, very nice colors you got off that E-green. I like the blue background as well, helps the colors pop!
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
That's actually a coil pot of green exotic with clear dot's but yeah it came out really cool.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Yeah it did, nice variety of colors from that E-green, I like the blue.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Very nice! I like that each dot has multiple colors in it, the layout is very cool too. I haven't worked green exotic, just blue and red exotic a bit. It worked very differently than I expected it too though. Tricky colors, but I've seen some really cool results with them. Your clasp looks great, btw. Did you pull that by hand or are you using bail biters now?
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
I pulled it by hand I can just about do them with my eye's closed now. All the practice is starting to pay off. Pic's don't do it justice there is some crazy depth and awesome rainbow oil slick going on it there. I just ordered some blue moon and NS multi to see what they are all about should be here tomorrow.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
Sweet! I have yet to ever use bail biters, I'd like a pair though, they seem to have their place as a lampworking tool. Particularly the "Handy Andy's". I doubt I could pull clasps with my eyes closed but they've certainly gotten a lot easier. Its amazing how that happens, right? Do something hundreds of times, and all of a sudden, something that was once one's nemesis, becomes second nature.
Also, I've used a bit of blue moon and multi and had fun with them. I recently used my small sample stick of dark multi and really liked it. I think I like it more than multi, but that may be because I haven't used multi for months and I lacked serious color knowledge and tech then. I would imagine you could really have some fun with some of those colors on a triple-mix torch! I am yet to work on a gtt torch, but damn I wish I had a blue knob (secondary oxy) on my nortel bwahahahahahaha but that would be ridiculous....
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
I'm loving the triple mix the lynx is really nice, I could see how a thicker flame would come in handy but I should be happy with it for a while. I almost got the multi dark instead but I figured I should try the regular first. I got the multi and blue moon mostly for the W/R orders I got I'm sure I'll use them on some pendant's too.
I haven't been on the torch as much as I would like to be lately my fiber blanket is shot and I'm saving most of the glass I have for when my kiln get's in. You better believe I'm going to be raging like a mad man when it arrives. BTW I really like the kimble glass that I ordered it is a little bit stiffer than the simax which I kinda like fuming sticks to it good and seems to be quality glass. The price really makes it a winner but with it being good quality glass this is what I will be using for here on out.
Re: L3V3R2ooo's Progression Thread
HOly shit dude you CRUSHED that green exotic. I had horrible luck with an exotic when I first started and have'nt tried any since then. Makes me want to go grab some
