Cool sherlocks. I thought they were way bigger till that last pic. Why is the color so different,Lighting?
I am not sure but they look way different. Maybe while it was in the kiln? First time I used that color I will have to play with it some more.
They are kind of small. But I bet they sell like crazy. Small dry pipes are more popular then the larger ones.
They are small, but I dig em. I have only sold 1 of these privately but I am back in the studio sunday and I am going to pump these out in all different colors for the local shop. Hopefully they like. What do you guys think I could get for those wholesale? I was thinking like 30.
If you can get $30 take it. I would charge less. It would take me like 15-20 minutes to make that. So I would charge more like $12-$15 range myself and try to sell a lot of them. It might be hard to get that much for a dry pipe though. Water pipes are so much more popular.
I try to charge about $20-$35/hour labor plus materials if that helps.
About 20% material costs is a good estimate.
Takes me an hour. Coil pot color, shape the 3 sections, piece together and then final shape. I am still a newb though.
Then $30 wholesale is about right. I don't coil pot. It is not as strong as tube.
I think there really nice. You might want to add a marble or two and sell them as one of a kind head pieces. Then you can ask for up to 70% of the retail. Make only 3 a day you would be set. Raise the price for the marbles.
Thats a good idea Nomad. I have been doing fumed implosions and a tiny one on each of these would be perfect. I coil pot because I don't have any colored tube. I have been wanting to play with more color lately so these are the perfect little product for me. Thank you for the kind words also :)
Asian colored tubing is really cheap. Your wrap and rake looks tight. I would go with that.
I use the same torch also.
If you coil pot and work it in I don't see how it is not as strong as tube. Tube can be stressed out and not be as strong as worked coil pot. Idk
Why are they 3 pieces? Are they welded where stem meets fatter stem then can?
^^ yep. Well with 3 pieces I can get that classic sherlock look with the black stem. Nomad I'm not a huge fan of china color they really only have a couple good one. I like the pink I used that for one. With coil potting I can use some cool colors but I get it. I like the wrap and rake but the shop I'm dealing with thinks that's all I can do so I decided to mix it up

It is hard to get it the same thickness throughout the piece which is important to the durability if the piece.

Thanks Nomad, give it a shot they are fun to make. This one went to a medical patient so it was a special gift. It helps to draw these out and have a plan.

I'm working on some new production pieces. I am having a difficult time with the fuming getting all hazed up and its pissing me off. I can't get rid of it with an oxy flame and salt doesn't get rid of it either. WTF. don't know what to do but i feel like i can't sell these pieces with the haze on it. :bangHead:

Gd and silver fume with honeycomb $8? Come on that's crazy. I'd charge 20 minimum. Probably around 35 and just make it a biger.

If not, i'd sell em for 30-40$ spoon, and 40-50$ sherlock.(retail) That fume looks quality. I can't see the bowl hole or any of the other key factors, but if they are all on par...

I recently sold a similar spoon to the one with the honey comb to the shop that buys 90% of my work. I asked $20 since it was the first one that style I had made, and wasn't perfect. The shop owner told me he'd be glad to pay 25 in the future once I get them even nicer. My frit and wrap and rack sherlocks have been getting me $15 and I use the same blank I would for a spoon just shape it different. Thats what I'm making for prodo right now and I can't keep any around I've been emptying my case every week.
In my dreams I could get more money for a wrap and rake. Gold fume doesn't matter.
