Nevermind, sorry for derailing this I thought it was just something universal I hadn't heard of. It's your work, call it whatever you want, didn't mean to stir the pot, sorry again everyone.

I make reference to California style and New Mexico style and east coast style from working in those areas and what I learned in them.
That's all.
actually no it doesn't. i'm pretty sure people use whatever size tubing they feel comfortable using, not so much saying "i'll work in the Idaho style today, with only used crack stems aka 9mm for tubing"
this is another case of nomad being nomad, and me being an asshole in the morning.
Yes you are right but to be specific that is what Tony from goodstash in hermosa beach California wanted. With big bottoms.
The customers in la loved them.
I'm pretty sure crack stems are 12 mm standard wall. So you can clean it with a cigarette and get all the crack juice from the inside of the stem and smoke it.
So I'm told.
I use 9.5 mm for downstems though.
Back to the piece I was making yesterday before I ran out of propane.

all i'm saying is that the fucking size of the tube you use (or the size of the bowl push) doesn't dictate "california style" or whatever. that's pure horseshit mate. selling point for the custies.
Yeah this conversation makes me want to try some 32 mm.
I could get $5 more a bubbler for my large.
For fuck's sake how many times do people have to say that this thread is supposed to be for pics only??
Nomad, it is almost like you do it on purpose. This is not facebook, you don't need a separate response for every thought that pops in your head.
Not exactly fresh out of the kiln, but I had to post something to be fair lol.
Here was a custom request for a "Wallace and Grommet type green sheep." It tried to keep it cartoony :)

I call this Venetian style because I learned the reverse axis from watching Leno tagliapiatra work.
I will spare you the rest it's production
A little all syzygy pawn mini tube, and a matching directional pawn carb cap. Grommie 14mm to 10mm joint on this one, with a diamond cut two slit diffy!

First cup I've made in a long time. Loving the Beth grand. Very excited to be focusing more on cups soon. Holds 12 oz ( barely) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1eb4b1c082.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9e051cc01a.jpg
Very fresh work is very clean
If I crop or modify a picture , it will say "invalid."Quote:
Swim:I have pics I want to upload here, but it tells me its is invalid. ANy advice on what I should convert them too if they were taken with an iphone 5
If I take a screen shot after I modify a image. If I try to post the unaltered screen shot it works.
I'm on a iPhone 7 , so idk wtf. Just a thought.
Thursday Throw back piece. First 2layer I ever made. Circa 2011/2012 winter?
Was attempting to prototype a round bottom flask for an interesting commission and ended up running into some issues. Decided to turn it into a decanter for my parents' upcoming anniversary. Accidentally made them a buttplug stopper... :whip::spank::wtf1:

Well I have not had a drink in 2 years. So cups are not a priority.
But I get asked to make cups for Jewish ceremonies at temple. I have made a few also.
Actually I found on ancestry.com I'm really half English and Irish.
you just don't get it do you Nomad? if you want to spew random brain droppings, this isn't the thread for it. it's almost like you NEED the attention. maybe talk to you shrink about it? OR get a blog, or a thread all of your own. really it is annoying.

I was just commenting on how cool his torch is!
Trust me after 4-6 years of critique in art school with mean artists you could not handle my blog!
prove it. not to mention, we've been forced to read it if we want to stay updated in this thread already.
this is your post, cut and pasted:

that is in fact blog material, and seeing it in "fresh out of the kiln" is fucking annoying.
This is a couple days old, but maybe it will encourage people to STFU and just post pics. Perhaps a mod could limit the posting privileges of people who are unable to adhere to the (clearly) stated purpose of this thread?
Got my first request for scientific repair/modification. Turned a busted soxhlet into a shunted soxhlet. Happy with the wall weight, not thrilled with the cosmetics, but the glass was so thin in the first place I'm taking it as a win. This type of apparatus was favored by Sasha Shulgin for certain ochem applications.

Dude chill! I am going to limit my posts to strictly critique and pics of my work. I will skip taking them today though. I am waiting until I am done with enitre order so nothing repeats. Peace.

Thats ridiculous. If you are here to see pics, and even more selectively if you don't like nomad posts, first just scroll through to pics, and or second, just scroll past all posts made by nomad without reading the content. all you need to do is read his name then skip it.
First thing made in 6 weeks! I never fume and this turned out great! Gold and silver and gl33 ladyfinger backinghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2797e3a1df.jpg

@Oneiros - That Soxhlet repair is pretty cool...but you don't want the return posisitioned like that. I haven't used your soxhlet...but i am guessing that if you run it like that, the solvent won't stay in the chamber for an extended period of time, it will automatically return to the boiling flask. That is way less than ideal because the time that the solvent sits in the middle chamber is directly related to the yield %. If you were going to run it forever it wouldn't matter as much, but the efficiency will be super low, so extracting a good yield will take a long time.
The siphon (return arm) is supposed to go from where it is...vertical, as high as you can get it without it being equal to, or higher than the top of the bypass seal (because that will also make it fail to function), then it should curve back down. You want to blow a little bubble right where the break is as well, and that will give you the volume you need in the siphon to make your solvent stay in the middle chamber until it reaches the bend in the siphon (which is why you want it to be as high as it can be without reaching the bypass arm...it increases the effeciency of your extraction), at which point capilary action sucks all of the solvent out via the siphon, and into the flask. I'll post a pic of one I've made so you can see what I mean. Thinking about all of this...i did a report on the history/function/fabrication of Soxhlets...I should post it here.

This pic makes it kind of hard to see the shape of the siphon arm...but if you look at all of them, you can kind of make it out. If it's hard to see, let me know. Also, if my explination of why it's like that/placed there doesn't make sense...let me know and ill write a little more verbosely.
Last night's work ,just went at it with no expectations, bottom one is a honeycomb I tried to salvage from another pendant, ended up cracking and scaring.
Top I got all Skuzzy gonna use it to.experment with spraying with borax and reworking and left one was a junk mixture of shorts coiled ,twisted and honeycombed, also after 2 years got kiln running so I can finally post in fresh out of the kiln lolhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5b18a90a76.jpg

I appreciate the commentary, and had this been purely an attempt at repair, you would be correct. However, there's a reason I explicitly referred to the apparatus as a "shunted soxhlet" :) As I noted in my post, this was a custom/repair for a chemist. This particular soxhlet isn't intended to maximize the solvent time in the thimble/in contact with the material, quite the opposite.
The shunted soxhlet has applications...most notably in the realm of certain syntheses that contributed to Dr. Shulgin's fame/infamy. I'm not going to say more than that out of a desire to stay within the board rules and to avoid derailing this thread without adding pics. That said, I do appreciate the input and would appreciate additional critique in the future if you notice something as apparently egregious :)

then take your own advice for fucks sake. you posting this, just so you can be in the cool crowd, you scolded me, instead of just shutting up and posting a pic. i'd say you have the same issues, if not worse.

go make me a sammich. fresh whole rabbit, hold the fucking mayo.
I could use a new design that is high paying.
I have nothing to do with oil but a friend of mine loves it. He's like a millionaire now so he buys expensive pipes like that. I got to use one once.
