aymie that is so nice!
is that an attachment on a rig? absolutely beautiful.
It's the handle of a dildo actually...I have a booth at an upcoming kink show here in town.
And thank you very much. I really love fume.
The top one kind of looks like one of Hoye's really simple blow-in's, but I've never seen one with stacked gripper like that. The ISO line w/HC looks kind of like something Dogman would make. I've never had anything EXACTLY like that though and we stopped carrying his glass almost a year ago now.
Attachment 51763Attachment 51764Attachment 51765 Its all about the flame atmosphere. Aymie gets great fume so my advice is not for her, but in my experience, the silver sticks to the glass easier, and the gold sticks to the silver base better than to straight glass. of course you can do it either way, and will get different colors/effects with both.
not only your reducing/oxidising settings of your flame, but the pressure of your gasses, esp. propane, have a big say on the outcome effect. I rarely, if ever, get the rich colors crescent does with the matte-like characteristics. If you see how aymies recent pic has almost a metallic effect to the imploded dots, mine is like that x10. even if the colors are faint, they have a very very reflective metallicness to them that is uncommon in most of what I see. BlackFireGlass clued me in as to why at a DFO a few years ago while looking at some of my pendants.

^^^ dig that color changing reversal work :)
I just picked up a "ten penny" of river gold from a buddy of mine, which is 1/20 of a Troy ounce; he says the gold was assayed at approximately 90% gold, 3% copper, 2% platinum and 5% silver. His name is Trey, his number is 707-362-7084 and his website is http://www.idahogoldandgemoutfitters.com/. For those of you who were at the DFO, he was the guy that build all the metal structure with the hydraulics on the bread van back by the boro gloryhole. I haven't tried it out yet but will post some pics after I fume with it a bit.
Wow HMK, those are really, really nice man.
By permanently changed colour... you just mean it's done over black or something?
Killing it man, very nice!
yeah T-Rex, you got it, i made black tubing then fumed it with gold and silver, from each side of the tube to give a graduated effect, then striped it with clear to trap it, trying to leave tiny gaps in between and then burn the fume out of them to give each line definition. then recoated with clear again.
oops double post :)
couple pendants with silver fume in lay.

Right on, HMK, thanks for sharing man! Your technique comes out real nice - the colours are all quite bold! So different than the mess I make when I fume things haha...
I need some practice.

Posted these in my work thread. Thought I would post them in here too since it's dedicated to fume shots.
This was the first opal pendant I've done in a few years. This opal had a crack in it when i got it, so i tried a little different way of encasing it than usual. Got a small bubble trapped on it, but oh well.

^^^wow cheeseNip, those colors are so so sick... if you could give just one tip, what would it be..? to get awesome colors like that.
Thanks! I mostly just use super light layers of fume for most things, and play around with laying the fume in different patterns. Fuming is my favorite way to color glass so I try to spend a lot of time figuring out different ways to do it. Also pay attention to the temperature of your glass while laying your fume. I like to fume while the glass is decently cold, reheat to bake it in slightly, then decorate. I feel like I get better colors if I fume while the glass is colder. Sometimes i will fume implosions or inside out so light that I have to let them sit in the kiln for a few days to bring out more color. I think they all look best after sitting a few days, but I really only do it if it was fumed so light you can barely see it.
My favorite fume is when you can hardly see it as well. Nice work CheeseNip!
