Re: my progression
I try and rework the the area and to no avail it is still foggy, so i scrap it. I think I am done with bowl pushes on chillums because I can't rework the hole with a pinpoint flame. I don't know why, I get a nice pinpoint flame and point it right at the hole and what happens? nothing! it doesn't even get the hole hot it seems all the heat is going around the hole and back out towards me making the bowl fucked up looking and thick in the wrong places, I give up with that shit for a while. I am going to take your advice and open and flare. I wanted to punch something tonight. I haven't felt like that in a while....like college. Thanks for the input James, I know they are only chillums and I shouldn't stress over it and I take it as a learning experience.

Re: my progression
Thanks AC. I have been trying to get a decent sherlock for a while now. This torch is helping me big time. I have not really attached marbles to my pieces yet and I think this one might be protruding a little bit. I don't have a marble mold so I am trying my best to keep a round shape.

Re: my progression
Made a few fumed honeycombs. Still need a lot of practice to get them to pop I guess. I like the look of the double amber frit honeycombs. Still having a lot of trouble with overheating the glass, like the io frit spoon. Looks aweful. Still having trouble getting that double amber frit to pop purple. I'm using a oxy rich flame. Not sure where I am going wrong?

Re: my progression
Thanks guys. I guess I just need more time working with double amber purple. Hope to get some cobalt tubing in for some sherlys and throw some fumed honeycomb marbles on them. Need some oxy and propane first :/

Re: my progression
Ohh man that's going to be so sick with that dark cobalt to back the honeycombs on!! Maybe a fumed one on one side and an amber purple one for the other!!
Ohh and about the amber purple I use it in rod form and I've noticed these things about it.
Once it gets molten it goes clear and bringing from cold back up into orange range generally strikes it back to that deep purple. But it also has a reduction thing that it does. It'll kind of boil up the metals on a reduction flame and surface has the glass with purple/silver now I've heard contrary on weather you can reduce colors on the inside of a tube or not.... but I can see a good argument for both sides but haven't worked it enough to know for sure

Re: my progression
typically the act of putting clear over AP makes it reduce some, and often a lot.

Re: my progression
The HOT single piece Sherlock tip.....
I would guess you pull the shape of the lock with a tube handle on the mouth piece. ( rod on the bowl head)
Try to pull a lock with the tube on the bowl head ( no bell yet )and a rod on the mouthpiece.
Pull it so the bend is closest to the floor. Handle up most of the time it's still hot. ( yes you have to move it around and finesse it still)
Yes it is a pain to put a perfect bell on a pre shaped lock .... But way worth it for the final shape you get in the end.
Also , starting with a thicker diameter /thickness tube right before you hot shape it always helps me.
This may not work for some ... But was night and day for me when I finally figured that out.

Re: my progression
Boro, I blow a slight bubble on the bowl end and punty up. my blow tube is on the mouthpiece. I shape the mouth piece a little and then condense and stretch to make my shape while my punty is upright. Remove the punty and blow a hole then bowl push and carb. Seems to be working great, not sure me putting the blowtube on the bowl end would help my case but I might be confused as to what you mean? Ive had great luck using my method.
