Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hello, I'm a new member who is really interested in working boro glass making pipes, scuplture and marbles. I've been studying the subject for about 9 months now and feel I finally have a good enough grasp to buy my own torch and kiln. Right now seems as best a time as any since I've been laid off my job and I've wanted to pursue an artistic career for all my life. The organic nature of glass combined with the vibrant colours is what draws me to the material.
I'm no stranger to art and working with hot materials as I've been a hobby blacksmith/bladesmith for 4 years now. Where I can see similarities with glass and steel I know full well that there's a large learning curve when it comes to flame chemistry and colour. I've been trying to absorb as much as I can from a lot of videos and reading sources online but I still feel I'm a newb.
I'm looking to get a Mirage torch and a Paragon front load bench top kiln from Mountain Glass.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Welcome!
Good luck getting that Mirage. GTTs are great torches, but there is often a waiting list to get one. I've heard of some people waiting up to a year. If you want one your best bet may be trying to get a used one. They pop up here from time to time, and you can also check the GTT Facebook groups. Sometimes even on Ebay. Just have your money ready. They often sell within a few hours of being posted.

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
I'll throw down an intro.
Hello everyone who has already introduced themselves!
I'm 24, live in the borean tundra in the winter, and a lake of fire in the summer aka North Dakota.
Been blowing glass for like... 6 months? Or something like that off and on.
It's a super awesome time, no pipes are to be made in my neck of the woods due to North Dakota dishing out felonies to anyone that manufactures glass pipes... But i'm working on all sorts of other techniques like implosions, marbles, pendents, and such things like that.
Enjoi it!

Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hey Folks,
My name's Jed. I've been flameworking since 1997 and making glass color since 2006. I own and operate a little manufacturing shop producing small batch 104coe color rod outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. (Double Helix Glassworks)
It's good to see such a vibrant community of glass enthusiasts.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
What up Jed! You sold me my first torch when you worked at Frantz :chilling:
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Hi Jed, great to have you here. This is a fantastic community.
Re: Rollcall - introduce yourself!
Not sure I would give all my business info to Indians ?
I was not treated fairly years ago by the import companies.
But I do order generic medication from India. So I have heard of stranger things.
I have Indian friends that I grew up with around here also. But Ashish sells jewelry imported from India wholesale. It is a different business. Indian was his first language.
I try not to need loans my sales are to sporadic.
