Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
try a few days of working just clear.... It minimizes complications. also lessons from a seasoned pro like craig/shockwave, would help a lot!

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
Those looks great for your first pieces! good move on getting the lynx instead of waiting even longer to begin melting. I'm impressed with how well it looks like you are working the bright colors, like red, yellow. Marbles look really round. Keep it up! Are you working with your sister or just learning on your own? I look forward to seeing how you progress over the months/years :) Is that the china white you used in the black/white marble? good job on not overdoing it with the silver fume. You should be proud of those creations!

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
yes, and Steve Sizelove's vid is a great help, watch it enough times and practice inbetweens and it will just happen naturally by itself.
Spin out your rondelle with a 6mm punty rod and the effect of it's own weight will flip it out.
I think it was BZ Glass that put up a good vid on youtube during the past couple of weeks.
Got any pics of your Sis on the torch?

one of those easier for you to say it than for me to do it things. i know the theory, but in practice... well i need more practice :)
i will watch the utube vid tho thanks for the tips. no sister torch pics really, sorry.

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
here's a thing to try;
Blow out the end of a 25 hvy tube, leave some meat on the nipple at the end.
Punty up to the nipple.
part off so you are left with a 40mm long piece of the tube on your punty.
pick out the tube end so you can open it up.
with the right heat and spinning axis you can flip it out. I'm no expert but that's basically how I do it.
PS lemme know if you wanna score some pics of yer Sis.
j/k

huh right on thats different. is that preferrable to blowing a bubble and flaring it back then? seems you might save a step recondensing the thickness down...

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
last of 09. im getting happier :)
check out 8th pic: i laid some thin clear on top of that design before expanding it and it crackled, lol. accidental, yet pretty well done crackling... :D reminds me of the etsey marble guy, but i did see a reference to crackling in a glass blowing book recently, and apparently it can be done on purpose sometimes too.

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
i got 4 dishes with flat shrooms on the bottom now. im feeling pretty chuffed about it too.. :D i just made a honey comb inside and outside design dish, one on black one on white with shroom image on bottom :) i will spill the beans on how i made it pretty soon, but first lets see someone figure it out, i think it must have been done before, i have only been blowing for 3 weeks.

Re: HMK's mediocre glass thread
no, thats not it.
