Genone's Melting Progress...

I've always loved glass ever since I was a kid, have been collecting glass for 10+ years and decided to make my own glass. I've been messing around on a torch for a while and decided to buy my own, got my GTT Lynx on 1/2/10 and have been loving it...

Some of my photos broke rules before, I had to make a new thread, I understand what when wrong...

What did you use for the comb pendants? Tube or rod

Rod that was coil potted and blown thin, I think it was Double amber purple or purple luster, it was one of the purple striking colors...

I'm trying to find the right size cork and these pendants could function as mini concentrate holder pendants...

oic cool so there kinda dome shaped.. ill have to try these...im just tryin coil potting and have been turning them into small jars...didnt think of puttin a hoop on it...good idea!

you can make coil pot flatter and not like a dish shape but that night I just went with it and they came out really cool, that striking on the far right one is one of the best I've done...

Yes I make the hemp necklaces, not sure the name of the knot, I do spiral knots on each side to accent them..

This is an old pendant but I love it/ kept it...

cool im gonna have to learn how to do that... i have a lot of pendants sitting around and itd be nice to be able to wear a few..

Diggin' the basehead pendants!
The spiral is called a "Half Knot" and the flat one is called a "Square Knot".

That's what I thought but didn't want to say it and be wrong...

in technical terms a spiral is a half knot SINNET , a square knot is two half knots one of a left half one a right half . I gotta get some pics of my buddies ties , he takes them to a different level , they are pretty nuts sometimes .

A sinnet is a sting of repeated knots , so its square knot sinnets then half knot sinnets . Dont care just clarifying

Made some slider bowls for some friends, or people trying to reduce glass dust, har har...(I'm gonna buy some gong and make some of those slides, made 4 more of these slides too tonight...)

LOVIN the Bone pendant, Ill be makin one for my Husky as soon as I get my shop back together!

your stem ends will be cleaner if you melt the tube just below where you want the end of stem , now gather a lil blob on end and smash said blob so you have a T ========| let it cool the slide your tweezers along shaft and tap the disk off the end of tube , polish it and your good .

if you do this while the bowl is still hot and anneal the disk , just flash the disk and it will shock a crack around it , you can also use a shock if in a hurry , just let the glow fade give a second or two more then shock it .

You can also use this for point handles or blowtube ends .

Yeah Kutster, I've tried them before but hate shaping marbles, but I need a mold too, but I will try some soon, as my better marbs broke in the kiln. But I understand why now, bubbles in the clear and not marveling color flat when backing a marble...

dont hate shaping them, and dont get marble molds right away, till you master shaping them in the flame. i have made about a 100 marbles and never used a mold. you spin a marble directly horizontal in the flame to make it round, its pretty easy. if its too fat tip it down(handle up), if its too thin tip it up(handle down).

True that but I'm a perfectionist and want my marbles to be perfect and spin true, I have plenty of marbles that are close to round but if they don't spin I get upset...

right on bro, i made some trippy marbles lately too. i might make one into a dish. glad to see you are likin the orbular shape, you just gotta have patience and keep spinnin in the flame i find. i work one half, then the other, and its getting pretty round these days :)

those bone pendants are sweet man, also your marbles are looking nice and round...

Dude, I second that for the bone pendant....:D gives me a good idea!!

You using a marble mold yet or no? Cuz honestly, I would say stick without it, I think you can get a truer marble without using the mold, sometimes it throws of the axis of it. That and if you start rounding it when it's too hot it puts lines in the marble surface and you need to go back and re-polish. Plus, when you wanna whip up a marble real quick to stick on a piece, it's very convenient! Keep up the good work!:D

i think marble molds are only actually necessary for ones larger, i dont know, say 1.5 inches diamteter and bigger?

I can't wait till school is over for summer so I can spend more time on the torch. I practiced some buttseals and some came out clean, I might buy some gong and try out making a Gong slide.

I was gonna bring some pendants on hemp to a festival I'm going to next week, but ended up selling seven of them to a dude that's been buying my glass, I'll still bring some but unloaded most of them in one transaction.
