Turtle Glass Progression
Hi Every One, Im new to this board and lampworking. But all ready love it alot more than other one I had been visiting. I like the idea of tracking my progression alot! Ive had my torch up and running for almost 2 months now :) Im so addicted to glass at this point, lol. Its usually the first and last thing I think about each day, as well as all day long at my real job. My friends are tired of me talking about glass all the time, I think. Although I get some good compliments from them on my work, which feeds my desire to learn and make more. I live in a place where there is very few glass artists. Which is good and bad! Well lets take a step back in time and start with pics of my shop then from my first couple weeks. Ill get caught up to present day asap.
IM *Turtley Awesome Glass* out of central IL

Re: Turtle Glass Progression
****recent stuff******Here are a few dif tobacco pipes I been tryin last couple weeks. Made about 15 of the style of the blue tube one from the pics, with blue and green tube and they been sellin real good out of my case. I use ns butterscotch on those cuz I like it, lol. The green one and the clear omes have silver fume on the outside but you cant see it in pics at all :( Sometimes My fumes goes away on font of pipes? And sometimes all together???? I try to keep flame slighty reducing? But ya those ones more impressive in person then in these pics I guess. I like to use just fume and clear sometimes. I been trying to do cool fronts on pipes with twists. I been tryin to put not all the way melted in spirals on the side as a grip and to try to have somethin be same that stands for me on em all but not sure how I like it. Not all turn out good but most do and those sell first seems like. I got a question about w&r , alot of my color wants to break off after I wrap it and go to melt it in. I been avoiding these for this reason. Do I just need to got tube hotter before wrapping color? Also been tryin chillys the small green one more of a pinch bat made for that reason but others standard size in my eyes, lol These are just a few of the 25 pipes and 1o chillys I made in last couple weeks. These are the ones that are still in case after a few sales outings and clear wit green and clear wit blue I made the other night. Im workin wit my mega minor right now and have been for last couple of week as my CC at carlisle gettin cleaned and evaluated. Im so ready to have it back and make more complex things, faster and thicker, lol . Thanks for lookin :) let me know what ya think of the new stuff *And Im goin to start taking pics of things right out of kiln before they make it to the case and out the door so I have a better record of progression and more pics :)

Well I guess that makes up my mind. Thanks for the info. Now to get the money saved to buy one.
I"m loving the turtles by the way. I'm not much of a turtle person myself, though I do like them. It is cool that you can do a honeycomb for their back.

Re: Turtle Glass Progression
So here is my work from monday night! Finally Did A good w&r that I twisted on mouth piece. Also tried a new Idea for putting signature/personal marking non carb side its a kinda spiral thing with dots. I like it alot more then spirals on first ones, wha do u think?

Re: Turtle Glass Progression
pop the bowl hole back a little further and push with that as the center, and your shape will be better. you want the front end to be the highest point, and this will help that.
Other than that your color work looks great. For the time you have in, you are rockin it, nice work!

Re: Turtle Glass Progression
great thread :D always like seeing how people progress. i've been thinking about getting a kiln from the glass hive as well. just a regular one though, i like the tall one, i donno that i need the height yet? good to have room to grow though...

Awesome work! I really like your pipes :) Are you figuring this out on your own or have you had any classes or instruction?
-
Re: Turtle Glass Progression

I think I said this above - but Yes, I took one four hour hollow class and one four hour solid class. One each weekend the two weekends before I openened my shop.
Also took a two day weekend bead making class As well couple months before boro classses
I learn much better seeing somethin done firsdt hand and having someone to ask questions when I try it for first time. So the classes really helped me. I would love to travel and learn from lots of people through out the next couple years. This forum and others also have helped alot.
