Music Festivals Summer 2012
ANYone going to any around the nation here in the states?
I got to meet lots of great glass workers at last summers events some from the forum and some not from the forum, and hopefully folks can link up with people again this summer.
I got into Wakarusa so please come by my booth and check out my stuff I have been working on and chat for a little bit too and whatnot and everything.

Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
I am going to one today. But I have not been selling glass at them. I just get to have a fun time and meet some glassblowers and see what there selling in the lots.
I get over booked for orders. So I am not looking for new customers or setting up a booth as of right now.

Looking at Summer Set in WI, in a couple weeks anyone going or been to it? it will be my first time...
ElectricForrestFestival was great, I met some folks from the forum, thanks so much for stopping by and BS'ing a little, its fun to talk with other lampworkers.
I was in the campgrounds at EFF although at Wakarusa I was inside the concert area but I think I like the campgrounds more, seems to be more going on at all hours. At waka they had kevin from greenside gallery and I meet Vaughn too at another booth he had doorhandles and bigg marbls and nice works...
Anyway I was thinking of trying to give "lot reports" or talk about what people like and dont like about these different shows too. Also I enjoy learning about more new shows.
if people have favorite ones and whatnot, please do tell everything you wanna say about it...
Of course like many folks i dont have much time to type so off to the studio!
OH and thanks to everybody who replied ! :- )

-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
i know a few different groups of people who were at all good that all had the same problem after drinking the water there... they were in bed til a couple of days ago... guessing you brought your own water Dave lol.
And i take it no one will be at Knotfest August 18th at Somerset?
-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
All not so good?
Not all that good.
Not ALL good. Not the water.
-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
ya, i did not want to be a downer, but it heard all good was all bad this year from a group that has never missed an all good. and the show will not be welcome back to the site it was moved to this year due to it being trashed.
-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
^Really? They have a 5 year contract with that site.
-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
it was definitely better in WV, but we had a good time. i never drink the public water at fests. so much seems to be unsanitary about it. people bathe in it and shit, no thanks.
we had no issues really. i heard some stuff online afterwards, that people got hassled some. but we never saw that. we never even saw cops on the highway. it's all about the personal experience at these things. it's all about what you make of it.
i must say, i hope it returns to WV. buckeye lake has great history, but there are just a million other festival sites that are way better.
music was all really good, and the stage area was really nice. all in all, it was all good for us.
-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
OH good I like these reports on the festivals, makes me more informed....
I always think its good to bring with or have some fresh drinking water, I am particular with that. Sucks some folks had it bad with the water:bummed:
I wonder where it will be next year, Sounds like an established show, Ohio is closer then WV for me, maybe they could have one at the 10,000 lakes festival site again in MN someday, that show was great, I love being in nature, it adds a vibe for sure!
Dave i hope you post some good pics up if you got em, and happy to hear yous had FUN.
TLKQ It was nice meeting you too, thanks for visiting, I can talk allot about glassworking.
I wont be at Knotfest this year and almost did sumerfest at summerset but thought I should wait to see how this year goes their, so maybe next time around.
thanks for the LOT REPORTs if anyone else can add in thats great.
I had lotsa fun and meet lotsa folks at Electric Forest Fest, I didnt see many official glass vendors this year but all kindsa art was represented, and seen plenty kids getting their hustle on:D:ohwell:

looks like bobby was rockin the short shorts there!

Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
im headed to ny in a week, cant wait
-
Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
I was at All Good, I really wish I had checked on here first or I'd have probably met a lot more blowers up there. Oh well, live and learn. I was definitely getting my hustle on, sold quite a but of glass because people just seemed thirsty for glass left and right. But I also had heard some horror stories, at least four or five accounts of individuals getting all their glass taken on the spot, and I guess one unfortunate kid with a rifle case full of his heady work got taken as well.
So I was extra cautious and kept pretty low profile and I came out all right. But my deepest sentiments to anyone who lost their work to security. I had a blast there, but I was the only one in my crew who did, sad to say. There was some unspeakable drama amongst the brethren, but I just had to play eye-of-the-storm and let nothing touch me. Play your cards right and things can be all good, but shit-storms do happen.
I'll definitely be more active on here prior to my festie ventures in the future. :) To all the rest of you still hitting festivals this season, be safe!

Re: Music Festivals Summer 2012
Jestr, thanks that was a great lot report
Just got back from the glensheens festival of fine art It was pretty fun, I did demos on site and showed people stuff the only band their was a big band with horns and everything.
the grateful garcia gathering was tuff for me, my shop was way in back behind allot of stuff and right by and next to the office for the camp grounds, their was 5 out of 20 vendors vending glass and one was doing demos on site. Also kinda funny but they strickly didnt allow glass in the whole venue and almost had to leave right away, ahhh, but stayed and like(loved)the music so that was totally worth it. and all and all pulled out OK so still happy I met so many new people and All... Also people had told me 4000-5000 people attend but the campgrounds and music site only allows 1500 people so whoa that was different but the small intiment crowd was fun, Its the kind of festival I would hav liked to have no respocibilities and have fun and not vend at.
Next I am getting ready for the Tattoo show, lots of artists and people who love things that are well done and interesting and unique. I feel surrounded by artists and get inspired by all the talented folks their:bouncy: so am very happy to be vending at the show!
with respect,
jes

Anyone know of any good festivals they would recommend or wanna know about one you didnt get to?
& Did anybody happen to go to the summerset WI show this past weekend? I heard its supposed to be the newest biggest thing in the area...
The tattoo festival was great, here I am looking almost too happy. I showed an outside vending booth shot so here is an inside booth shot.
