The Michigan Glass Project
We are getting together our promotional material for the Michigan Glass Project and are putting a call out for artists to join us. We need all the help we can get. The event is June 7-9 in Detroit. We have 20 torches, 3 crucibles, a stack of kilns, tons of raw materials, entirely to much energy and a mobile soft glass shop complete with flame working furnace gaffers. We have a stack of events on deck and love to show people our town. A big part of our goal is to bump locals and promote everyone who comes to work. Last year we donated $12,000 to the Belle Isle Aquarium here in Detroit and plan on donating more this year. Come to Detroit and let us show you how we do it in Michigan.

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
We here at the MGP have been busy little beavers planning the main event this June. We need your help. We are looking for places for some of our out of town guests to stay, so if you have a spare room for one of our guests, a shop you would like to see lit up, or know of any furnished houses we could rent for a few days, please let us know. Thanks! MGP staff.

Well here it boys and girls....
This year's event will take place on June 7th-9th in Detroit. We will kick off the festivities on the evening of June 6th with a cocktail party at the aquarium followed by three days of live music, food, and glassblowers collaborating on multiple artistic creations. The event will provide a space for our sponsors, glass artists, vendors and other attendants to establish new connections as well as expand on existing relationships. Proceeds from 2012 and 2013 events, the sale of the installations, along with silent auction art work and monetary donations will go to the Belle Isle Aquarium.

Belle Isle Aquarium is located in Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan. It was the oldest continually operating aquarium in North America, operating from August 18, 1904 to April 3, 2005. Designed by architect Albert Kahn, the 10,000 square foot aquarium features a beautiful arched ceiling that is completely covered in green glass tile. The Belle Isle Conservancy is continually trying to find donors to aid in the re-opening of the Aquarium. On February 4th, 2012, 4600 people lined up to walk through the building, which was opened for one day during the annual Shiver on the River event. In September 2012, the Aquarium officially re-opened Saturdays from 10am – 3pm. The public response is phenomenal with a weekly line out the door. The Michigan Glass Project donated $12,000 raised from 2012 events and auctions and we are looking forward to an event more successful event this coming June.

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Are any of the sponsors glass suppliers in Detroit? I currently purchase from out of state but would gladly buy closer to home if possible.
-
Re: The Michigan Glass Project
I wish. GlassCraft wouldn't let the public into their shop so they wasted a bunch of money. Was so stupid. I would have bought 100% of my stock there. Even if they were only open 1 day a week. But thats neither here nor there.
-
Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Not even a participating artist mention for me? I guess i will stay home.its not like I've been blowing glass in Michigan longer than everyone on that list but alex, brett, charlie, and Vandenberg.

Re: The Michigan Glass Project
Someone asked me if I was the guy that looked like pogo.
If your asking me, wouldn't I have to look like him? I was very confused.
So I must resemble pogo?? Because you asked me....
