nope,
they will crack the glass though, and you can recover them really easily. I've done it like 4 times trying to get it to work.
I promise you it works, i made those 3 years ago and they are still good.
sorry, i meant CZs will crack the glass, but do not themselves crack so you can recover them from boro if it doesn't work out.
Oh ok, thanks for clarifying. Yeah i figured as much since they are essentially glass with a different coe. Real diamonds have such a ridgid structure that they wont under go serious expansion/contraction.
been busy the last few days and havent got to check back. By the sound of a few of your posts it seems like real is the only way to go. I will def try to CZ route first tho. Using real ones is like rollin a *cigar* with a $200 bill
Not at all.
Cubic Zirconia is crystallized zirconium dioxide
CZ is heavy, it is 1.7 times denser than diamond.
It is much much harder than any glass and has a refractive index close
to diamond (but it has excessive dispersion).
BTW, the picture with the blue hair = HOT.
well shit, good to know.
isn't it all in how you cool/anneal the piece? i bought 20 3mm cz's from fleabay a few weeks ago and have only had the chance to play with them once, but i did the tube encase method just to see if i could, and no cracks. it did look like shit though, there were a few bubbles around the cz.
I found to prevent cracking cool the piece in the flame slowly moving it farther back until cool. I flame cooled and took about 25 min but no cracks (small flame and put the piece in a drill so I didn't have to hold it, just moved it back every few min).
And that is a real diamond I scavenged from my mom. She got it back in a nice pendant.

Daaaaaaaamn. Look at that shine
Niiiice!
I've succeeded with real diamonds and cz. It can be done
What about herkemer diamonds? They are similar to quartz I believe and are pretty inexpensive? You can mine them yourself if you live in upstate NY.
You can do it with herks fosho
We were talking about diamond encashment just this morning in the shop. I recall a thread with a cz in a wine glass stem? (different thread)
I can tell you from much experience , herks don't usually work. Mabye tiny tiny clear ones? but I live in upstate NY I have tons of herks (for real I bet I have over 2000 pounds of them)
herks/quarts tends to just turn into a bubble cloud.
