Re: glass wizards lend me your knowledge

Don't forget to get the green thread seal tape for oxygen. In my research, I learned that compressed oxygen is nothing to fuck around with, so take every precaution you can if you are assembling...

Re: How is the glass world going?

There will always be a market for art whether people smoke out of it or not. Why not make something other than pipes and bongs?

    Re: Working without a Kiln

I think this is the first time I've seen a newbie question get nice responses. What the hell is wrong with you people? Skip breakfast and the meanness dies or something? :hehe:

Re: LRG! You have been flamed!!

I'll look for that font, too. I have tens of thousands from my days when I was in desktop publishing and graphic design.

    Re: Playing with different metals

Or take it all off! And then take another pic. And then dance for us. And film it. Make it sexy, now! :bounce
  14. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

FYI, since it didn't really fit with the original topic title anymore, I've put the video and instructions in the video tutorials section.
  15. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Ah! I wonder if the stannous chloride would also make the silver stick a little better. I'm going to order some and give it a shot. I wonder if it might also enable us to make more dilute...
  16. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Yeah I ran into the silver nitrate skin staining twice. The first time was when I was fuming with it and some of it sputtered onto my fingers. Never noticed it happening, but was kind of concerned...
  17. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Here we go. Sorry this took a while, but I had some things come up this week and it took a while to edit this piece of shit.

Here's the spreadsheet for calculating the amounts of reactants:...
  18. Re: Custom Work with Cancer Mib and dude doesn't like it

It's not easy to transfer a vision from one brain to the next, so these things will happen, but you can probably mitigate the color issue at least. Perhaps you and the customer could decide on...
  19. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Okay, I'll get instructions pulled together this weekend. In the meantime, here's a list of materials you will need. You can use unused syringes instead of pipettes if you have them, but I do...
  20. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Okay, I wanted to report in on my success. I was able to blow a few simple forms, silver the inside, and paint on the outside with transparent colors. Bitches, they look beautiful. I mean my skill...
  21. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Stop it. If I think about it, I'll get turned on. I'll need to excuse myself to the restroom and I work in an all-male office, so no one here has any hand lotion.
  22. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Oh my. I have no idea how I wrote "Banjo" instead of "Bandhu." I know who wrote those books, so maybe it was an autocorrect or a brain fart. Stupid brain or stupid computer. :2rolleyes

    I might...
  23. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

As far as I can tell, all paint is applied outside on traditional glass ornaments. You might be able to paint a peck of pickles with a pour and dump, but that's single color. I can't imagine...
  24. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Thanks so much for the kind offer, BoRo. I really appreciate it. I made my bed, so I had might as well lie in it. I think you are right about biting the bullet here. I started out in soft glass...
  25. Re: Applying external coloration to blown Christmas ornaments

Had I only know that beforehand... I'm going to have to get good at working with standard wall, because I don't need 500 lbs of clear frit. :D
