I've been using a cheapo one from acmoore. Only had it a few weeks but it has a lead base and non-brass pins. A few of the pins need to be straightened but it hasn't melted at all. 2 inches and $6....

you can make your own smoke bomb at home with sugar and i think dextrose. google it. Might be easier than tracking down some to buy.

Your not self taught if your reading forums and watching youtube. The short answer: Its not hard to make a bead or marble. it is hard to make really nice beads and really nice marbles.
