Interesting how this idea can fire people up . Yet it's going to take a real leader to make anything happen. Otherwise it just loses steam.
Yes, , many interesting and different people on this forum and in this "movement" of glass making artists. As far as this "trade organization" is concerned it is important to stay on track at this...
Well said Aymie. Now might be the right time. I don't expect there to be complete consensus but there are enough people interested to get it going and others may join in once they see what's...
I can see no down side of creating a legal/political arm of the pipe making movement. And that's what this is about as far as I am concerned. Pot should be legal and I dare say it will be one day.....
Blade, Robbin, anyone... where should people go to sign up to receive information on what's going on?
Why now ? for me it's because there are so many people who's lives depend upon the income earned by this industry and I don't think it's wise to leave that to chance. Things have changed tremendously...
It does not seem like UCCTO (yes it's a lame name ) is going to be the popular choice for most of the glass workers I have spoken with. From the discussion I had with the rep they had at the show...
It seems that there is a lot of interest in getting this discussion going. Yes it is very complex! At Glass Roots the Panel which was comprised of Blade, Mickelsen, Trautman, Bandhu, Snic, Margaret...

even the fanciest infra red heat sensors have to be calibrated to the material you're aiming at. Generally not worth it.
Not sure I understand how this became a torch thread?
I'd like to see a pic of what this does in glass
I have to remember the fellow's name but he was doing lightning research down at the University of Florida and also was a part time lampworker. This was back in the late 1990's. He asked me for...
sounds poisonous...
For the record I want to say that Dustin has made it right with me and seems to have a new professional attitude. I'm looking forward to doing a lot of business with him in the near future. Everyone...
I'd be down for supporting and participating in this . Any progress been made?
What color (s) are you using? some colors are more prone to devitrification if worked too long or too hot. Sometimes you can remove the devit with a hot , small hand torch flame as the last step...
smaller drops seem to work better. The temp of the blob effects it too. try letting it cool a few second before letting it drop into the water.
Gosh, I'm very sad to hear about this. Condolences to family and friends.
I didn't know Damien myself. However, I've lost friends before in sailplane accidents. I think I'd rather go that way...

The color looks like paint. The base glass could very well be boro.
Michah, I do appreciate the kind words .

Actually there is no need to go over 1050' F if your TC is reading correctly ( which they often are not). Striking at higher temps runs the risk of melting the glass and/or livering it. If you use...
