I don't really get it, I am a computer geek, so the concept is not over my head, but its just sounds like distributed computing being used to generate a fancy screen saver. Personally I feel that if your going to get involved in distributed computing, use your spare CPU cycles for something like SETI at home or mapping the human genome or cancer research (all of which exist and you can download and participate in).

I've used PC based Electric Sheep for a few years now, and it is by far the coolest screensaver ever. I often don't want to disturb it when its running, which I guess is bad for productivity but whatever. I'm suprised more haven't heard about this, as its pretty damn headdy. Alot of the animations it comes up with look like glass.

Since I've switched to Linux I haven't been able to get it too work on my distro, which sucks. I'm still working on it tho, hopefully I'll get it running.

Seriously, I love this screensaver, try it cause it free, you'll be impressed.

It doesn't turn your compy into a render farm unless it's been idle for a while (like several hrs on my version) ... it took my old computer about 10 or so secs. to kill all the render processes when it was in that mode.
