PVC tube, you can get screw on caps for the ends.

I don't do production work, so I don't need to carry cases of raw glass. But I would like to be able to safely carry an assortment of tube and rod, ideally in their original 5' lengths.
I've seen some plumbers toolboxes that are pretty long and very sturdy (probably long enough for color). Any ideas on something larger/longer, but solid and weatherproof like that?
Thanks!
Josh

I use a rifle case a little over 4 feet long, maybe you can find a longer one
monkey grippin'
I second Emmett.
Those caps are fucking expensive, so I only do one end with the screw on cap, the other end with a permanent cap. Then once I have it assembled, I cut a piece of foam (like the type in a rifle case) to ID size of the PVC tube, and use a slightly smaller capped piece of PVC tube to push it down to the bottom (the reason I say slightly smaller capped piece of PVC, so you can evenly push the foam down without it turning sideways on you. It's a luxury step at best, and can be skipped. I just find it useful).
insert foam in perma-cap before adhereing to tube, then you don't have to shove nuttin
I let my dome rock while I let my erl drop
i meant to say shove it in the end tha get's perma capped, That way you still have both srufaces you need for proper adhesion

Oh, like cut the foam to size, put it in beforehand, and shove it several inches up, then seal the permacap, and wait for a while, then push something down to seat the foam.
That makes sense.
i use a golf bag, what it lacks in protection it more than makes up for in style.
