what does everyone do with their scrap glass? right now i've just been accumulating 5 gallon buckets. pretty sure i don't feel ok with just dumping the glass shards in my house trash pickup. maybe keep it in the 5 gallon buckets that have lids on them and rid them? what do you all do?

ya trick or treat, dump it out on the street somewhere maybe where theres lots of traffic
but seriously ya, i feel ya, mine is starting to collect. i could dig a big hole, or haul it down to the glass recycle guys prolly, they have a - bottles for crushing, and broken glass section i think.
you can donate it to your local UC art dept. you will also get a per pound tax write off...

Really? What could they possibly want a bunch of unusable boro scrap for?
I don't know any recycling program that takes boro. We throw it in the trash glass is not a pollutant. It costs more to clean sort and remelt then just starting from scratch. The only responsible glass recycling is reuse of glass containers.
...if you can donate it that'd be the best. a lotta recycle places dont want boro, at least the dude that picked up the trash around here a few years ago fished it out of the recycle bucket and left it behind.
make your own terrazzo
i do the same as if it were a bag of kittens.....
find a bridge!
With the new crucivals (sp) coming out to melt it, I'd be saving it and
starting my own cullet stuff. I have seen some pretty fancy stuff coming out of the shop this past month from the new design for melting Boro and its made rather inexpensive.
I don't think it'll be long until a lot of you are adding one of these to your shop.
that's a lot better than carrying it down to that dam bridge
I put it in a cardboard box and tape it up then just throw it in a garbage bag so the garbage man doesnt cut the shit out of himself
Sprinkle it on the beach.

someday i'd like to have some sort of old dishwasher i could wash clear scrap to crush as frit. obviously the amount of clear frit that can possible used is somewhat minimal. anything else even somewhat usable is saved for apprentices.
dave winship was doing some boro recycling for a short while a few years ago. he was crushing it all and then making a liquid slurry he was then filling into ice cube trays. when they dried he fired these and they came out as a nice organic shade rock that you could melt small sculptures and things too.
cool process really. very inventive, and opens up the possibility for filling molds with liquified boro. not sure he would be so stoked i shared that, but he had brought some to a trade show for sampling, and i haven't seen anything come from it since.
