    Default Favorate Black Boro

I just wanted to get some opinions. I have some onyx that does not work well encased, cracks.

What about NS Ninja ? does it do well encased?

I have 3/4 pound of onyx frit that has always had a tendency to crack on me..i like GA raven or NS Jet Black, but I havent had problems with China Black, I have heard it does well encased, but I am also sure some people would disagree..

to be honest i havent encased any...raven is fine, i just threw jet black up there because that seems to be one of (if not the most) used standard black. i wouldnt have any worries about encasing either one.

I like Jet black. Or Dark Amethyst if I don't need a true black.

It depends on the application but I would use Jet Black or Black Violet.

Yup. Jet is more opaque, good for thin applications, stringers, and deep encasement. Black Violet is very stable and less stiff, but more translucent; good for thicker applications and backing/layering.

Ninja all the way.....I just got a shipment of fresh Northstar color and the Ninja black is the best I've used as well as the Star white is smooth as silk....better than the white boro stix for sure. I do kick down some Raven for a couple applications.

    It depends on the application.

I like Onyx and Walnut for a lot of work since they melt so smoothly, but they're faux blacks. Walnut's brown, Onyx is green. If that matches your color scheme, though it's a good thing.

The dark transparents like Dark Amethyst and Black Violet are good blacks when they're thick or don't transmit light.

The dark, dense ones like Jet Black, Ninja, Black Blue or Obsidian are good for stringers and line work. They're stiff and need to be worked in an oxidizing flame to prevent cobalt reduction more so than the other types, though.

Black Elvis and the other striking/self striking blacks (Blackjack? Sable?) are worth checking out. They handle thinning better than Black Violet, and have a melting profile more close to Amber Purple or Ruby.

i agree that depending on what your doing, one black will serve you better than another
just wanted to add that blackjack for outside mibs and perma bridges is the shit. lots of it, real thick looks good and always struck black again. however stringers and stacks, it liked to thin to a brown on me. also its expensive

on that note... i use china black for the same reasons listed above...just high oxy instead of self striking, so the price wasn't justified to me to keep blackjack around

black voilet also looks brown to me when thinned

imo jet black is the most versitlie for every application

    go jet go!

I was wondering what this black was that was left in my shop, that cracks on every piece I use it on, thought it might b ninja, but pretty sure it's the onyx. (I use Jet black. )

I'll throw one in for GA Raven. It has been a solid color since release. The ultimate backing Black I have found. I used their cobalt-6 for years, while dealing with reduction issues I feel like I can throw the Sun at Raven and it doesn't blink
