Glass Art wanted : Jekyll Island Glass Blowing Center
Greetings to my fellow glassworkers,
My name is Kristen Pickett (aka Gypsea) and I am a glass addict/lover of all things glass. Yes, I confess….I have been entranced with glass ever since childhood, from the first cut glass bottle that I picked up while working in a recycling center as a pre-teen. I became a fulltime lamp worker at age 18, working clear boro from 1978-1981; took a twenty year hiatus to work as a Registered Nurse while raising my family; then dreams of the flame lured me back into the glass world in 2001.
I know many of you personally from multiple years’ attendance at AGI, and through contact on The Melting Pot /Talk Glass forum where I have served as a moderator for many years.
My husband and I are now in the process of opening a glass gallery-retail store/working demo studio on Jekyll Island, GA., where we own a home and have lived for the past thirty years. Jekyll Island is a State Park located off of the Southeast coast of Georgia and accessible by motor traffic via a causeway, as well as by boat and air.
Our Jekyll Glassblowing Center will be perfectly located in the National Historic District, on a walking street situated behind the historic Jekyll Island Club Hotel, and also next to the Convention Center. Our primary clientele will be family oriented tourists with varied ranges of discretionary income. We plan to attract traffic by offering free lampworking demonstrations and by advertising through tourism channels.
This opportunity has presented itself, and we are very excited to take action on it. I hope you will join us in our endeavors!
I would like to display, promote and sell your glass artwork in our “Jekyll Glass Blowing Center”. If you will send a photo and short bio/info, we will display it along with your works. The island environment is family oriented, so we are unable to accept smoking accessories, but all other forms and price ranges of glass art are welcome.
The showroom is set up with lighted glass cases, closed jewelry swivel racks, and hanging displays are out of hands reach.
I have attached some links to Jekyll Island, so that you can see what a beautiful tourist environment it is. A consignment contract is also attached. Please print it out and submit a signed copy with your glass artwork. We hope to open our doors OCT- 2011….so the time is rapidly approaching and we are currently accepting artwork to catalog and make ready for display.
Thank you very much,
Kristen & Edward Pickett

Or did yinz have cleaner air now?
Re: Glass Art wanted : Jekyll Island Glass Blowing Center
hey bruce, i sadly missed agi last year and this year, so neither of those glasses were mine.
the air in brunswick is good now, they made them change their ways at the pulp mill there. it was horrible when i was a little kid, we'd hide our noses in pilows down in the floorboard of the back seat when we rode thru town.

In Beaufort, NC where I grew up, we had the Menhaden factory. Icky odors of fish processing are still clear in my memory but we were told "it's the smell of money".
