Interesting.
I met a German woman that sculpted in soft glass, she was taught
to work the glass so that it had no strain in it and her pieces never
broke even though she didn't anneal.
Do you use any particular brand of glass ?
Addendum:
After looking at your site I see that Effetre and DH are favorites.
I have a ton of Effetre/Moretti, going to try that black widow today !!
Really incredible work, thanks for sharing.

Re: new critters on ETSY
Thanks!
Effetre is the main glass I use. I'd say I've used less than a pound of DH in the last three years put together. I little of that stuff goes a loooong ways.

I got my spider in the mail today, thanks so much Wes! I was really impressed with how delicate it was as well as the very realistic pose. Thanks again, I will be getting more of your work for sure!!

Charlie, thank you for your nice compliment.
I just posted some more goodies on there, including a replica of the Eupholus magnificus species of weevil:

There's also a wasp resting on a blade of grass (similar to my 2010 ISGB Gathering demo):

Re: new critters on ETSY
Hi Everyone!
I'm really loading up my Etsy store, instead of sending pieces to galleries. Prices are also a good bit lower than gallery pricing (shhhh! ) These are all Effetre/Moretti ("soft" glass), "off-mandrel" sculptures.
Here are three I just posted:

Enjoy!

John - thanks! That's my new fav color combo for spiders, I've been making a bunch of those lately.
Jay - thanks, too! Funny thing is, I don't feel like I work hard enough/make enough stuff. Maybe because I do my own photos and the work is smaller/easier to photograph, it seems like I'm more prolific? Anyways, it's nice to hear a differing opinion to the one in my head

must be crazy to ship these things, how do you pack them to prevent breakage?

Shipping is tricky, to say the least. Most important is to keep the item immobile, so it doesn't break itself when the box is bumped around on the journey. But obviously it needs to be well, cushioned as well. How to do this really depends on the piece.

I've got pics of the packaging job of the first spider I bought from Wes... I'll post them later tonight.

Re: new critters on ETSY
Here's the first spider that I bought from Wes. Absolutely amazing that something so fine can be shipped halfway across the country and arrive in pristine condition. I've got 5 so far and they've always showed up in perfect shape.
Basketball sized box... notice that it was tested by the post office.
Tons of peanuts.
Smaller box inside peanuts and large box.
Critter nestles in chunks of foam.
Black and blue spidey checking out his new digs. He later lost his life in a tragic dusting accident.
