just happened to come across that. Anyone tried it?
I have some cheap(er) loose diamonds in the safe that I might try it with but Id hate to burn one up.......

This is a pretty cool find. I had no idea that borosilicate was compatible with diamond. I wonder if you can drop them in the end of a blowtube like an opal.
TRY IT!!!!!!!
seriously though it would suck to fuck up something that expensive. If you do try it good luck and let us know the outcome.
woudlnt suck that bad...if it went brittle and cracked to shit u can always get a hammer and get that shit back right?
CZ man. WAY cheaper and encases without an issue.

You need to get a diamond pretty darn hot to burn it. Its melting point is more then 6,000F But if you do try its a good Ideal to make sure the diamond is clean of any oils and dirt first. (tho then again any discoloration might be a cool effect)I have some cheap(er) loose diamonds in the safe that I might try it with but Id hate to burn one up.......
Getting em back from failed attempts might not be to easy tho. Diamonds are very hard but that also makes them brittle to and they can break pretty easy if impacted or preyed on its edges in the wrong direction. So smashing them out might not be to good. But you could prob just nip out the parts around the diamond
couldnt u thermal shock (water) the glass without breaking the diamond or CZ?
If they dont melt till 6000 F, I bet you could put the piece on a raised metal mesh screen and melt out the glass in the kiln.
I'll be damned.
from the article:
"made from borosilicate, a glass type known for its high resistance to thermal shock, which maintains the wine’s properties at normal levels while the glass is held in warm hands"
I hate when the heat of my hands thermal shocks my wine glasses. Borosilicate to the rescue!

graphite melting point is higher than diamond
they must be doing it in an oxygenless atmosphere
or its cz
I fried one a while back be careful. Melting point is high but burning point was low.
No an easy task. I have fucked up a few diamonds !!!!!!! The Juice is not worth the squeeze.

So basically since they're encased, we would have no way if knowing if they are real diamonds or not. Well the price tag is high, so they must be real, right?
I do it, you can also case zircon, but tiny raw diamonds look$.
Using a real diamond would be foolish. I bet bigmoney these are CZs. When even science cant tell the differemce, why use the real thing? Furthermore, any impurities in the natural stone would result In problems, whereas a cz is pure.
Aymie
Plus CZ is cheaper than fuck. I've considered taking a page out of Abe's book and casing like a hundred cz's and totally covering a piece with them

CZ's sound like it might be the way to go..
Very slow heating and cooling to prevent cracking.

CZ will crack on normal annealing cycles in Boro. in soft glass they seem to work way better.
Thanks,
Andrew
I was always told CZs will burn at boro temps
