    Default Voodoo Vixen's Progression thread

Hi all! I've been on the torch for about 20 hours in the last month. I've been teaching myself as there is no where around me to take classes. Lots of youtube watching and book reading along with hands on trial and error.

I read someone say once that opening the kiln the next day is like Christmas morning.. and I do feel like that!

I'm going to be doing glass full time and I work in Boro. We are working on a oxygen system which I'm sure I'll talk about sometime soon as my partner is working on it and I told him he should write an ebook as there is some info out there but not much.

So without more delay I'll post some collage pics of some of my better pieces. You can visit my site to see more pics and read my blog if you would like as well. www.voodoo-vixen.com

Would appreciate any comments and tips as well

Lookin good, but you gotta clean up those loops! I'd suggest heating a larger section of the rod you use to make the loop, but not getting it completely soupy. Get a fairly even heat base, then pull gently to make the loop and stick it to the back. That should get it much thicker and cleaner at the base. Then you can play around with a graphite rod/reamer to get it all neat.

I like the animals, they're very creative.

max - yeah.. loops are my biggest issue.. I'm getting better though. I think part of the problem is that some of the glass that would work with certain pieces melts too quick and I need a stiffer glass.. but those don't always work for all pieces. I've also thought about premaking some loops to just heat and add..
