my first time buying fuming metals was from my local jewelry store. a lady that works there saw my marbles, wanted to sell them there. while speaking with the owner we got on topic of fuming, so i bought some 24k casting grain.

+1 for casting grain for gold. Either a jewelry store or jewelry making supply company usually has it. For silver, I usually just tack on an inch or two of silver wire to glass orders.

I use dental gold I get from old people's mouths. A punch to the face usually gets the tooth lose for easier extraction.

Hey, funny you brought this up because I was thinking of getting my fuming gold this way too. So after you loosen them up, do you use long nose pliers or vise grips to do the final yank? I am thinking that long nose pliers can get in to the tighter confines of the backs of their mouths better...

***Damn, just reread this...talk about poor taste!***

You won't be tasting much until your mouth heals from having your crowns ripped out, lol
I have some large channel lock electricians pliers, grab & twist and the gold comes out easy, often leaving the tooth still in their head.

Apmex tends to charge a higher premium (this is day by day) You could hit up Ebay for small amounts, or JMbullion.com for more. Bars or coins tend to work best. The castings are pretty good too, but the last time I checked they had a higher premium on them. Essentially, what it is doesn't matter, just make sure the gold is good.

i do not like the JM bullion pure silver bar. it came coated with something.

every new piece of silver i fume with, puts off a weird pink flame, and .. cruddy fume.. until the pink flame goes away.

basically i find i have to waste silver by fuming nothing until the pink flame goes away... then it's good to go. i don't know what it is, it's one of their 99.99 or whatever purity bars.
bought a while ago.. your mileage may vary.

JM Bullion does not actually produce the coins. They are produced by a mint, and sold by JM Bullion. JM tends to have the lowest prices, but any sort of coating would come from the mint. I have several rounds from them, but I am still burning through some silver wire I have...so I haven't gotten around to using one yet.
