Re: From feety to heady. Joseph Mullan and his glass journey.
Update. I've moved studio's. Kinda half fell into a lathe apprenticeship and a way less involved/less drama filled atmosphere. I left my old spot with a handshake and smiles on both ends. But im taking a much better path, things are looking hot.

Would love to see the lathe work! Glad you're doing well.

Re: From feety to heady. Joseph Mullan and his glass journey.
Quick update. We moved the whole studio to a better locale. I've been depressed and have been not producing much but I've been refining and learning techs. This being my 5th fillacello and maybe 20 somethingish discflip. The discflip is a trying but fun tech in and of itself, it gets the heartbeat racing when I'm setting up for it with the fillas I've done. The lathe work has just started. I'm working out the final kinks before I head in to do full time production aside from part time filling in the voids. Come spring I hope to be up and running with a solid regimine. Thanks for looking.

Re: From feety to heady. Joseph Mullan and his glass journey.
Life has been hectic. Many things have lead up to me setting up a home studio. My parents needed my help more than I already was giving. I've upgraded to a F130 Elite kiln and a GTT Samurai. The goal is a few hundred prodo spoons before I get cranking on serious projects. I've got a process down to where I make about 5-6 an hour, so that will be done by the end of the month before I undertake a focused agenda ( teddy bears.... yea imma make em...) to get ideas out of the head. The lathe deal ended up dying off. No bad blood. Just nothing serious came from it. Sadly, I don't take many photos of my work. That will change soon. I post more work on instagram @yowhatupson if you're interested in more updates than what is here. I'll see if I can find a video of a colab or two with a friend and get it on youtube.

Quick shot of a get well gift for a marble photographer. I take near no photos of my work. I've collaborated on a few nice pieces this thread needs to have in it.

A crap photo I cropped from Instagram. I made the opal tech. This was a replacement for a piece we had made. We made a full body rabbit that is just as nice as this rig. I'm going to get nice shots in here soon.

Vibe is a good buddy of mine. He is super chill and focused with his visions. I'm preparing a ton of opal tech for a project with him. It's always a blast to melt with the guy.

a Colab tube with Tommy b. I made the space tech, the fillacello and the adornments. There's a retro disc I made on the bottom not pictured. A garbage screen shot of the full body opal tech rabbit with vibe. And a marble I forget who I gave it away to.

Thanks. I got a bunch of pointers and I have a simple method I use to set up and not lose so much in black and opal. I get about 90% " tits grade" sections but I do mess up a part from time to time. Although I use .35-.5mm with raw black. If I were to use .5-1mm chunks again I'd clear coat my black first, to help with the Coe stress I've had issues with before.

Im using crushed opal all the time now too. I switched to smaller flecks, like the effect. check out my ig hmkglass if you want. i double layer it for a bit of depth and good saturation, put a layer of thin clear down in between.
you will shank me later

A chunk of opal tech, I like to go heavy as fuck. Just got over a week of being sick. I'm behind on this prep. Gotta get cracking.

I dislike photos of opal tech. You lose so much of what it is. I looked at your Instagram. I'd like to see a piece in hand. It looks great in photos. But the true depth is lost. I've hit a few BigZ rigs. And his coverage is intense. I've seen a patch or two of checking in them. But it's to be expected with such intense saturation. But in the right light I've mistaken the same rig as two at a show sesh. The red and green contrast is so vivid in his batches. I feel he must get special order slabs crushed. The grain was so uniform I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case.

The two vibe colabs on display at his most recent show. They really look nice in bright, multi angled lighting sources. They refract from every angle. Kinda plays tricks on the eye.

https://youtu.be/qTahXm-RgS0 Took a purdy class. Practicing a few easier vessels before I try the recycler I learned in the class. Came out nice. Baby blue cheese with a honeycomb and dark blue satin and og moss lotus implosion. Been lazy with the summer heat, about to start making things on the regular again. Thanks for looking.
