WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
Anyone remember these rollers and know where theres a set collecting dust? I had one but sold it to a someone here years ago and would like to pick one up again. Or at least 1 set of the rollers - they were the best!

I know someone with a set of them. How much would you pay? They're in good condition, and I'm pretty sure the base is around somewhere. From what I remember they were something like $350 new 10 years ago.

That's how mine are. I'm pretty sure I got them in 2002. Really cool rollers.

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
bummer... i don't think i'd be interested if they're all like the middle one. one of the things i love most about these rollers is that they're easily adjustable with 1 hand. that middle one is not the same tough - it's mainly to stabilize/balance the top of the piece.
thanks for the heads up, though!

Being a Poor man, i'd love to see these brought back!

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
and they have strong magnets that hold the rolles in place on the metal base.
super pimp

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
I randomly came across the magnetic bases in a industrial supply catalog while looking for cast iron bases. Were around $35 each and usually used for setting up test equipment for machining, like to check the run-out on a crankshaft or something.
Someone with access to a cnc should make these again. Looks like they are aluminum.

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
pretty sure harbor freight sells the bases too.
the section that holds the wheels is aluminum but everything else is stainless. I would imagine they're not very difficult to have replicated.

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
Are there pressed in bearings on the wheels proper? If not that would be a worthwile upgrade.

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
i would actually spend $$$ on those

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
im gonna give this a try in a couple weeks, ive gotta get something drafted up. I saw this the other day and pondered it the whole time camping. I want to also make a magnetic adjustable powered wheel that you could butt up to the glass and have that as a roller. Or possibly some sort of light rubber belt assembly, also adjustable and movable, that could throw over the tube and a powered wheel with adjustable speed, that way you wouldn't have to hand spin it if you didn't want to. I just got a small metal lathe so I can do quite a bit of it at home, as for the base and the wheel holding assembly, ill get something drawn up and ask a guy I used to work with and see if I can get those lasered out of stainless. I don't really care much for the new shop I work at so I don't want to ask them for any personal work, but im on good terms with the drafter and laser operator at the other shop, and still continue to do work with them. But, no promises of success or it being in time frame your working with.

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
just bought a set of magnets off ebay, this would be most ideal in a situation where a guy had a metal table top and wouldn't have to deal with lugging around the heavy base to affix this all to. Im also going to do 2 small individual bases for the regular upright rollers so I can just attach the magnet in the center and use it then as a regular roller. If this all goes well and mine turns out the way im hoping, and if this guy dosnt pop back up and start selling them himself, and if there isn't a patent and with my design im not in any sort of violation, I would consider trying to put together 10 of them and see how they went.

Re: WTB: Badtram Poor Mans Lathe
I would second or third or .. hell who doesnt want a set of these ... 350 is a fucking steal.. my only question is how the fuck do you get the two sides to role in sink with each other ? as in could you actually set this up and heat the middle In between the two sides and have the glass stay even?
ohh my bad I think the on and off is for the magnets ... on first glance I thought they were mechanized rollers ... but their just regular rollers ... I was so psyched ... like hell why do you even need a lathe..
