    Default Zukies battle with BORO

Whatup everyone? My name is Jason and Im pretty new to hot glass. Ive been on the torch a little over a year now. I spent some time working stained glass a few years back but this is totally different. Ive been lurking here for a little while and just taking in as much as possible. I figured its time to start a progression thread. I started off with a minor and soft glass and quickly realized that it wasn't the best way to go about working with glass, so I ordered a lynx and boro. Instantly I had less problems and in turn less aggravation. I started off making small pendants, marbles and such. Later on I got some tube and started dabbling in hollow work and really enjoy it. Either way, on to some pics starting from day one.

I made a trip to Mountain Glass one weekend to do a little shopping. I picked up various sized boro tube, rod and colors. I also went ahead and picked up a paragon F130, knowing I had to have it. I was also tired of making a good looking piece just for it to crack.

Some more of my marbles and pendants. I had a lot better success rate since I got a kiln.

This is about 6 or 7 months into it. I found a local guy that helped me out and shed some light on some of the things I was having trouble with, and told me to go home and practice practice practice.

A couple of tube implosions I got lucky on. I'm still trying to figure this technique out. Also I figured out a way to salvage some of my failed pieces. I decided to glue them to a bathroom window that was covered when I put an addition on my house.

A little update. Im about a month shy of a year and a half into flameworking now. I dont get a ton of time to mess with it. Just been getting in torch time where i can, after the day job and on the weekends a little. These pics were from middle of last year, up until current time. A buddy lent me a major minor to try out to see how i liked a bigger flame. I was impressed, and i got on the list for a mirage but ended up settling for a snub nose delta. Soon after that, I acquired the parts and made me a pedal setup for around $140. I didnt skimp on the SOV's. I made sure to get viton seals. It works great with no issues. I really like the new torch setup. Plenty of heat for anything im gona ever do. Lately i have been working on my fuming. Sometimes i get lucky and it comes out good and sometimes, not so much. Im still playing with flame chemistry, and figuring out where to hold the quartz rod and where to hold the piece to produce the best results. As far as the fumed bubbler goes, its only the second time ive attempted one. It seems to have a solid weld (maybe not the prettiest) but i beat it on the counter 8 or 10 good times and it didnt crack. Please let me know what you guys think. Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. The shot glasses aren't perfect by any means, but I have gotten requests for more of them. These were only my second attempt at them. They definitely look better than the first go round.
