No a 6" duct is not big enough. Attic fan is going to be 14inches and cant be run inline. An inline fan will be minimum of 10 inches. If there are any bends in the system that cuts down on CFM a lot, so it needs to be a strait shot or you need more fan. Squirrel cage fan I am not sure about, they figure CFM differently and I use an HVAC guy for installing those. Make up air also effects CFM. If its working right you are not going to want to pull air in from your house, unless you want your house freezing or your heating bill to skyrocket. Your glass shop is going to be the same temp as the outside unless you have radiant heaters. I do all vents at at least 1000 cfm to be on the safe side and most systems that i have seen being used by professional lampworkers are using the same guideline, but As far as I know there is no actual guidlines anywhere. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

Against a wall for sure. It will keep stuff off the floor and allow for that once in a blue moon situation, where you put a bunch of hours in to something, and mess it up, and the only thing that's going to make you feel better is throwing it at the wall. My bench was built by sitters. I mean, like, pull up an office chair and put your feet up while you work, sitters. Loungers is more like it. Lol. I do sit when I do some stuff, but hate the height. Nothing a cinder block doesn't fix, but when I rebuild, I'm definitely going for standing/barstool height.

thank you to all for the advice. As I just realized my current plan has the exhaust ducting right under the master bedroom window, where my sweetie sleeps during the day (nightshift worker), I've got to reposition the whole studio to the other side of the basement. At least it's all still just on paper

Khan, I love your radar dishes. I have a set that looks almost exactly like yours, LOL.

Twisteddman, love the transformer bench, very creative piece of work.

another thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet is that there will be a problem if you are exhausting lots of air from your basement and the furnace/ water heater are there.

those units have small exhaust pipes venting to the outside. if you put negative pressure in the basement, you will be sucking back through those vents.

you must provide an equal amount of makeup air, or separate the area so air pressure changes will not affect the furnace/water heater.

so whats the other side of the basement look like?

Here is a picture of the other side of the basement, I can also use the "room" to the left, it's just a flimsy separator wall that can be removed, cut or whatever. The downside is that again the windows are small, so I would have to use 1 to exhaust and the other for make up air, effectively leaving little to no natural light. Upside is that it's secure, quiet and relatively constant temperature as it's underground.

Another option is my covered patio, downside is that it's really only a 3 season patio and I would have to do a fair amount of work to better weatherproof it and I would have rethink the original plan for a sort of greenhouse in that spot
Upside is easy to ventilate through any spot (windows are just screen with cheesy plexi "storm windows" on the inside and tons of natural light. Another possible downside is sweetie may object.

Man caves don't need natural light. Do it up like a casino - no clocks, no windows, melt all night till your girl gets off work, then sleep! For real though one 12" hole is more than triple the size of 2 6" holes... you're probably going to have to sacrifice a window. I'd be pretty iffy about your gas water heater and furnace too, would it be possible to box that section in?
