    Default Czechoslovakian Glassblowing Torch

Just scooped this beast. Not sure what to do with it or it's wild valve situation. Possibly accepting offers. If you know anything about it, feel free to add. All I know of it is that it's from Bulgaria, made in Czechoslovakia in 1990, regularly maintained by a specialist, and designed to use 5 different gases.

    It's an Ubrugruntherzjicklaurstechm burner.

    Not really.
I have no idea. Might be a Kavalier burner or whoever preceded kavalier that they bought out (Kavalier makes Simax, and the Maya burner)

Interesting design.... I'm guessing it's Oxygen, air, propane, natural gas, and Hydrogen? Probably not all at the same time.

I'll trade you three large binder clips, a blue rubber band, and a half used Just Basic brand #2 pencil for it.

    or maybe...

    looking at the valves...

I think the 2 valves in the center would be for gas/oxygen for the center flame, and the outer left valve is for gas to the outer fire, and the right "y" valve would be for oxygen/air mixture to allow more of a fluffy or annealing flame on the outer fire. hard to say without seeing it in person and stuff...

Either way, I collect old torches, I haven't seen one of those, it's neat....but I can't make an offer on it, no idea what it would be worth.

This thing looked sooooo....... sketchy on ebay... It was up for auction for a good amount of time. From a far off country?

I would just say it's a cc clone, call it a day, and be happy it had air injection......

any opinion on how it runs? ( sorry I have been drinking the strong i.p.a.'s again. )

Ideally I'm tryna run it.. first torch but I can't get a straight answer on how to operate the thing.. can't afford air assist if that's what it takes to run it on just oxy/propane or just somehow step down so I can fit it with arrestors idk man I just need a torch if anybody knows what to do. I heard good things n some r just like iduno keep it on the mantle tho

Plumb it in and give it a go. It may be a serviceable piece of equipment but if nothing else its a showpiece.

I seen it on Ebay too.

I don't know what exactly your asking.

The far right large barb is gas in for the outer fire. The far right smaller barb is for air. The far left is oxygen outer fire. The two in the middle are oxy and gas for the centerfire. Yes they run better with air but you can run it with out. That burner uses low pressure gas and very little air to perform optimally. Originally designed for natural gas most likely but will work fine with propane. An air pump from an aquarium with a bypass would be plenty.

What did you pay for it?

the air is needed for only natural gas n not propane right? You sure it's not the large barb for air n smaller for gas? It's the only one that looks different n the knob has a yellow dot in the middle so whatever that means n I'm not quite sure how I'd hook an arrestor up to it.. it looks like I could just take out the y connector and run the small barb straight from the manifold but it's a larger diameter fitting so that's a whole other adventure finding something to do that.... with shipping it was a little less than 400 sent from eastern Europe to Philly, it just didn't have a lot of info on it until you asked the person selling it. I just so happen to be a fish keeper so how big an air pump are we talking about? It's pretty and unique and stainless steel so I'd like to make it work out..I'm trying to have my mentor hook it up when he gets the chance. Otherwise I can get a good deal on a cc+ but everybody's got them and I feel the need to be special so i shall see how things pan out with it

Yes the large barb is for gas. That torch is designed around the high volume low pressure concept. Same as most European style burners.

Yes even with propane air will really help keep the flare down. Same as a Herbie with or without air. Night and day imo.

Your only requirement for air is it being slightly greater pressure then the gas. The gas should be a very low a couple of psi but plenty of volume hence the large barb for large supply line.

So if you have an aquarium pump it should work you need a bypass so when you shut off the air at the burner it still is able to vent. A check valve on the air intake before the torch would not be a bad idea for safety. If your gas pressure is higher then your air pressure it could push gas back to your air pump and out the by pass.

Could you reference some specific parts and equipment I could look to buy that would do the trick (and possibly ones that are easy on ear drums)? I'm really pretty lost in all this. I really appreciate the help, it's kinda stressing me out

If I were you..... here is the deal.

You can "y" your gas lines together.... One y on your 02 , one y 0n your gas..... so you have one for each of the propane , and 02 ports/barbs.

    Name: y splitter.jpg
Views: 1024
Size: 1.8 KBName: ysplit.jpg
Views: 1049
Size: 4.8 KB

as you stand behind the torch , the small ports on the left , and on the top , thats your 02. the bigger ones on the right , thats your gas.

If I were you , forget about the air for now. It helps with a softer flame , But I doubt you would ever notice anything to start. leave the air line off , leave the valve closed , no need for air yet. (will hurt nothing )

Yes you need regulators for your tanks, and flash backs on your regulators before the hose..... "b" fittings are the size threads to ask for, for the normal hose for wielding torches...Get "t" grade hose , cheaper "r" grade will degrade and may clog your torch over time (I have run "r" grade in a pinch )

Wielding stores have the y 's with "b" fitting threads to screw to the hose, they will have the flash backs , hoses , all that stuff. use some kind of hose clamp on the barbs of the torch.... you will have to cut off the b fittings on one end of your hose.... If you cut the hose right , one half does one line after the "y" the other half does the second line from the "y" to the torch..... cut hose slides over the barbs......

so 2 "b" style fitting "y" connectors, one for propane one for 02 ......
2 SETS of hose, one set goes from the regulator/flash back to the "y" the other hose was cut in half , one half screws on each of the "y's" going to your torch.
I would set the regulator at 3-4 psi propane , and 25-30 psi 02 to start.
    o2 flash back
    gas flash back
    gas regulator
    02 regulator
4 hose clamps for the barbs on the torch
    25psi 02 on the regulator
4psi gas on the other regulator.

Remember that gas lines have a small slit on each union nut , gas lines are threaded backwards.... you will need the gas "y" and a o2 "y"

your torch is almost exactly the same as a cc..... its the same as a cc+ minus one out side ring of ports.... Your torch is about a 18mm face. A cc+ is 33mm. A cc+ is a BIG torch with BIG gas use.... your torch should use a good amount less. Your torch and any cc or cc+ with 4 barbs..... is set up exactly the same. They may even want the same gas pressures. That's why I suggested carlisle pressures.

Ok.. so flashes don't always have to be right on the torch? Cause that big propane valve doesn't have a b fitting on the barb. And this setup should work with a footswitch? I'm just unclear on the order of everything in the schematic.. I'm gonna run all this by the dude at the shop anyway so

If it works at all, it should work with a foot switch. Flashback arrestors are good to have right at the torch, especially on premix, but it's most important to have them just after the regulator that's attached to the tank. You could put one pretty close to the torch, if you care to - instead of cutting the hose you buy, just have the welding shop make you a short hose with a b-fitting on one end and the other end open (the local Praxair would sell me that for about $5), then attach the open end to your torch, and the b fitting to the FBA, and the FBA to the long hose that's connected to the tank. Having a torch-side FBA doesn't eliminate the need for a tank-side FBA, though.
