I wrapped it onto itself and then secured it with some steel fencing wire I had lying around.
Not 100% sure it will hold up over time but it seems pretty sturdy.

I bought a roll of waletex years ago to make tongs and I still haven't finished it. It's easy enough to replace the covering when you burn through.
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around, and desert you.

High temp gasket material comes in a tube just like the Kevlar gasket it can be slid over the tongs and secured with wire.
I have never used that adhesive so maybe it's bad ass but what happens when the tape wears out and you have to change it? I know cheap tongs just start over but we have to replace it every few weeks that would be a lot of tongs over time. I bought a wide roll of wales lathe tape with adhesive backing but I didn't think it held up that great for this use.
we use sticky to kepp the reg lathe tape on, w 2 dollar tongs. Ill keep ya posted.

the wire wrapping idea seems superior.
and makes me think of how shitty most of the hose clamps i buy are. So i'll add that to my list of gimmicks(probably using the wrong wording again, but you get the picture...) Half the time they don't work right. So i ended up using a piece of wire(whatevers lying around that looks the right diameter for the job) wrapping it around the hose twice, and twisting the ends together lightly until the hose is snug against the fitting(doesn't move when wiggled) bye bye hose clamp. For the regular size hoses(1/4, 3/8) i've used 12ga copper wire(electrical, solid wire not striated)seems to have worked well and i have alot of it lying around.
and for those pesky jewelry torch hoses i think the wire i used was just mechanics wire, or bailing wire...(smaller diameter than the previously stated wire)
