I want to read up on fuming techniques. I am trying to find a good book on fuming.
Does anyone know of good literature (and where to get it.) that explains everything from beginning to advanced techniques on fuming?
Its fascinating all the photos of fuming on here and I cant figure out how they do it so clean and sharp..
Any and all info would help..Ty

If there are any books specifically on fuming I am not aware of them. All of these books ^^^ will briefly tell you how to fume. The knowledge you are looking for is in these threads full of peoples experiences.
Fuming is a mysterious science. Every time I read through this stuff (and it's the best collection of stuff I have found) I learn something new.

My best advice is that if you are interested in it, pay someone who knows it really well to lay it out for you in repeatable terms. Someone who understands how to do the same thing on different torches (and can do it), or someone who uses the same torch as you are good ideas. If you don't want to spend money, read the threads here. I can make every single color, and I learned every bit of it here using the search engine. At the end of the day, you should understand that you can only get fuming down with practice. I feel like fuming takes even more practice than using color because color will be a lot more consistent. With color, if you lay some dots down and boil the color, you know what to avoid next time. If you lay down fume dots and they fail, it's harder to pinpoint the problem, or what to do about it. If you boil a color, the solution is simple. if you get the wrong hue of fume, maybe the way you should do it next time isn't so obvious. What torch do you have? I would find a simple piece to make, and start with just silver. Learn to make blue every time. Learn to make a few different blues, then add some gold. Learn to make blue/pink/purple/gold metallic with just gold, then use them together and learn to make green, and rainbow fades. If you are looking for the purple comb, start doing that at this point. By this time, your understanding will grow and it will be easier to assess why you got (or didn't get) a particular color. it makes it easier than just wondering aimlessly trying to produce a result you got once and loved. Good luck!
Ty for the reply...I have a Nortel major/minor by the way..
wait...you can make blue/pink/purple with just gold?
ive tried layering gold and silver in different amounts. i can get a nice green usually if i want.
but i cant get a rainbow of colors. ive seen some nice silvery white silver, but i cant do that myself. i guess thats what i need under gold to get pink.
and what about red?
You can get a nice stron trans pink from gold solo
Blue from just silver

did you really need to type that? thats about as basic as it gets.
but that pink wont be pink once it has a dark background.
must need silver as a "white" background.
blue/purple from just gold?
Practice makes perfect. No book is going to help you nail it. There are way to many variables involved. You need to just sit down and a start fuming. Keep a mental log. And there IS such a thing as too much,, silver especially.

I love fuming!! Just keep practicing with different flames and amount of silver or gold you use.. I use GTT torch and I know how I like to fume mixing gold and silver and such.. it all takes time and patience
too much silver just clouds too much gold to me just looks dirty..
hijacker, i dont know what you are getting so hurt about, i was asking about what mr porn was talking about, and you reply with non answers to the question.
specifically, he said to "Learn to make blue/pink/purple/gold metallic with just gold"
your reply, gold makes pink... silver makes blue, may be helpful to someone who has never fumed before. did you think that was the case with me?
also ive mostly only done outside surface fume rod encased, maybe with iso gold could be pink regardless of what it has for a background? but you mentioned a transparent pink so thats what i was thinking. color changing. pink transmission/ yellow reflection.
