Melt and Manipulate: Sculpting Solid Forms, An Exploration in Torchworked Borosilicate: with Instructor Michael Hengler

Venue: Carlisle School of Glass Art 412 S. Wade Blvd. Millville, NJ 08332

An Exploration in Torchworked Borosilicate: This class will introduce and refresh the fundamentals of torchworking that are required to successfully control form and color in sculpting torchworked borosilicate. From the nuances of flame settings and guides, to understanding the heat color of glass, color control (striking, reducing, crayon colors, etc.) rendering three dimensional forms from two-dimensional images, and more, you will apply these fundamentals to the making of sculptural objects and then assemble them in a landscape/atmosphere in this class. We will break down complex forms into simple geometry to help you visualize how to begin what otherwise seems unapproachable and too difficult. This class will give you the experience and confidence to continue developing your successes in sculptural torchworking, beyond this workshop.
